Planning trip - need location and apartment information

My husband and I are planning our first trip to Panama for Dec - March 2012. We want to travel to various areas of the country, rent apartments for one month each and use them as bases to do day trips. We are thinking of (1) the Panama City area (although unfortunately the apartments that are offered on line are too expensive for us), (2) Boquete, and (3) ? (still to be determined). Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the third location? Areas in or near PC that are reasonably priced?

It may help if you give people a bit more information on what you are looking for. Is this a vacation, and if so what do you want to see and do. If this is a scouting trip what type of area do you like. One wise poster said this in another thread with the same questions

For all the new folks trying to decide where you want to live, my suggestion would be to figure out first:

    1. Do you want beaches & hot weather?
    2. Mountains and cool weather?
    3. City life and hot weather?
    4. Island life and hot weather?

My only contribution would be that Boquete seems like its at the end of the road in that there is not much to see East, North or West of it due to the roads. To get around you have to drive back down to David area then explore. Its only 45 minutes between Boquete and David I believe so not terrible. But I would look for a place near David (I have heard good things about El Valle) to use as a base. Also Boquete is much cooler and more expensive.

Penonome or Santiago maybe good bases also but I have never been to either place. Just judging from their size and location.
