Are there really any ‘decent’ men in Panama?

Having lived in CR for over 8 years, I am looking for a new country that maintains the latin flava’s, but has a little more life and variety, so I'm considering Panama…

But judging from the posts here, I'm not sure I'll be going from the frying pan to the fire when it comes to the quality of men.

In CR, single professional women, with no children, their own income and who would be considered attractive by even the most discerning of gentlemen, have a problem finding a man of the same stature. They say that the ratio of women to men is 7:1, 1 being the number of men and 7 being the number of women, but truly, I can't even fathom where that one decent contender would be.

I don’t consider myself a 'snob' but I do have certain standards. I will not date anyone who is old enough to be my grandfather, or even my father, or anyone who is still living with their parents and still does not 'have their act together', nor anyone who thinks it is acceptable to have a wife, a mistress, a girlfriend and a lover all at the same time and probably children with at least two of them.

I think the 'Candy Store' mentally that most Americans come to CR with, has only been taken advantage of by the Latin women. Not having their own income, they are offered opportunities that they would not normally have and at some points, they find themselves in situations where they will take desperate measures to maintain the livelihoods of themselves and their families should it be threatened, leaving them with very few choices at the end of the day. Wouldn’t that make you ‘passionate’? One would wonder who is using who?

I say ‘Americans’ as the USA is geographically closer and therefore the majority of foreigners are American. I assume the same for Panama.

My hope for Panama was that there is a large enough influx of serious international business men that are not so easily impressed and who have a high standards of their own, compared those who are fresh out of the US.

Have I not come across a more appropriate social-economic class yet? Or is this just a permanent product of the meeting of the lower social-economic classes that could occur anywhere in the world?

It seems as though there are many countries that are actually dealing with this fairly new phenomenon. Women have come up from being a housewife to heading up the board of directors, doctors, lawyers, bankers, etc. I think this is a bit of a double-edge sword and has created what you are currently experiencing. I personally would rather be with an educated woman but I also know many men do not want that. Just do what many successful men do, find one young and stupid and take advantage of him. (LOL)

If you come to the city you will find plenty of business oriented men. Panama is one of the top offshore banking destinations in the world behind Switzerland. Plus with it's favorable tax laws for foreign investors and the recent real estate boom there is plenty of international travelers and money coming through Panama.

Add in the Colon free trade zone and the Panama Canal and the use of American Dollars for currency and you can bet this train of businessmen coming to Panama is not going to end any time soon.

Costa Rica has some awesome beaches, volcanoes, surfing and generally good times but what it does not have that Panama has is a major international business center.
