One of my guy friends told me that the women in Latin American countries see United States men as walking wallets. He told me that some of the women will date a gringo for a while just to gain his trust so they can take all his money and run. Is this true? What do you think?
It's true, it does happen, and this phenomenon is not limited to Panama.
That's really horrible! I mean, it's bad enough for the girls to steal the money, but it makes it so much worse that they pretend to be the guy's girlfriend! Worse yet, they are giving latino women a bad reputation.
Come on, can be some of them but you"GRINGOS" guys needs to be smart get to know well ver well, i can tell there are many panamenian girls that like american guys not just to steal money, in my case, i have always worked for my own money, i dont need to live with someone else money......open your eyes.
This is different than the US because why??
in the US thay make sure you marry them? so the scam has a chance to run for a whole lifetime :P

Its not confined to any particular country or so. It happens everywhere. I have been to more than 30 countries of the world yet and have seen and heard from the local people about these things. So, guys chill. Don't worry about these stuff , just have fun but be cautious.

As far as gringo's cruising Panama for sex it is probably more common with guys that are in town for a few days or a week. The guys that move down here I have observed do get into relationships, get married, have kids, home-baked cookies, etc.
Wow, there is a lot of issues and yeah thats true on both sides, men take advantage so women want to take advantage too! And the problem in panama is that there is TOO many women, there is like 3 women for 1 guy. I dont live in panama anymore I ve been living in the us for 4 years and I like it here there is not too much competition. Im the only latina haha(thats not mexican LOL) !! Anyways,... watch out for some of those panamanian women, some of them are trully crazy and interest in money but not all are like that, the good ones you wont find in a discotteque..Like memost good girls hang out at a bar where you can listen to bands play, have a few drinks and at the same time chat w/ friends.

Actually such incidents happen everywhere when there are foreign man with many around looking for a good time with local girls.
I wonder why is this situation ? Do Panamanians men migrate to other countries in search for a better life and that's why a shortage of them or simply there are more girls born every year than boys ?
The fact is, there are only slightly more women than men in Panama; check the census figures. http://www.theodora.com/wfbcurrent/p...ma_people.html It probably just feels that way to women over 30 or 40 years, because the culture allows male codgers to go 20 or 30 or 40 years below their own age, and women do not have the same luxury, for the most part, in Latin America. Plus, semi-legal prostitution in Panama makes it easy for men to find dates, however fleeting. :-)
Yes, you're right soltero , those statistics show that there is not actually such a difference . But from I've read it doesn't seem that way to women 30-40 years , on the contrary ,to foreign young men .
They seem to find in Panama more 2younger women interested in them whom to choose from than in their own country .
Also, I noticed that in generally more men than women are coming in Panama from other countries and the Panamanian girls prefer to have an American or Canadian ...or whatever other nationality boyfriend than a local one .
Who knows , maybe in the future things will change ,and in Panama will come more wealthy women in search for handsome 20 ,30 or 40 years below their own age men ,which they cannot afford to have in their own country .
As for prostitution , nowadays that's an occupation for both sexes, females and males, too.
Well, soltero, in every country, men find themselves young women and I,as a woman, I tell you that lately young men are more and more interest in older women. As in for prostitution, it is disgusting that men would even think about dating prostitutes. I am totally against prostitution in any country.
I tell you what, the main reason why Panamanian women like men from other countries, other than Panama, I mean is more than obvious, most men are unattractive, short in height, they are infamous for cheating or they have no goals in life. I know what you are going to say, that there is more out there than just looks, but isnt it looks what attracts you to talk to someone in the first place?
Yes, the census shows how there is not too much difference in the number of men and women, but if you go out you will see more good looking females than men. The good looking Panamenian men are or either married, homosexual or dogs LOL. Now, I am not saying they are ALL like that, but the good and worthy ones are really hard to find.
Well I tell you what, recently more men go other countries but its nothing major, its not like Mexico that everybody is trying to emigrate out of there. Check out what I wrote below.

I have many Latina friends, and all say pretty much the same as you:
1) Norteamericanos and Europeans (N/Es) are more attractive (in the eyes of the Latinas; part of that is height, part of that is skin color, and part of that is personal grooming)
2) N/Es are less likely to cheat on them with another woman (at least so the Latinas think)
3) N/Es generally have a more enlightened attitude about women's rights
4) N/Es are more likely to be financially stable and goals-oriented (after all, if they can afford to spend a couple weeks in Panama, they've got more than the average Panameño)
5) N/Es are more likely to be interested in a woman for more than her looks, and the corollary, for more than just sex. I can't count the number of Latinas who like me (as a friend) simply because I'll talk to them, and because I am interested in their lives, their work, etc.
6) A smaller point is that many Latinas simply want to practice their English -- and chatting with a N/E is a good way to do that.
Personally, I am very happy about all of the above. I have made many friends in Panama, none of them ex-pats.
The only part of this phenomenon I *don't* like: In guidebooks and chatrooms, Panama is increasingly being portrayed as a paradise or candy store for horny male tourists. I have seen way too many loud, drunken, obnoxious tourists -- from all countries -- who behave as if they are feudal lords with local women: grabbing ass, trying to collect as many girlfriends as possible, generally running amok with little respect for the citizens (and little realization, I guess, of how stupid they look). I am an ex-pat hoping to live the rest of my life in Panama, and I don't like the potential reflection these boors cast on me. But, none of that is the fault of the Latinas -- other than the fact that they are sometimes too trusting.
Good points , soltero , I would like to add one more . Women has a limited number of years when they may have children compared to men and that is why those of them that are quite serious and interested in having a family would be looking from an younger age for financial stable men (even much older than them and even if they didn't actually fall in love with them )that will make good caring fathers for their children and for themselves , too.

LET ME tell you guys that you are just ofending latin women, let`s face it some gringas are even worse than latinas. I am american and I just think a latin woman is not as cold as some american women, I am not ofending american women either.
how do you expect a woman to be with a man for nothing? Women like makeup, parfums etc, and if you do not buy her or give her $, for sure somebody smarter than you will steal your gf. It happened to me, I stole a girl from a cheap guy that thought her gf just had to visit him at his place, pay his own gas to have sex for a night or two, and what about the bills???
She was a sweet girl to me,I helped her, that is the difference between scamming and helping your gf.Now I am dating another latina woman and knowing in their countries they make so shitty money, if you want to keep it around give not only love, sex, she needs to get dressed, smell good etc. Women are not simple creatures as men.
Do that carefully and you will give a change to the relationship, DON`T BE SO CHEAP!!!!!

Life has taught me that a woman deserves the best you can give her, and let`s face it happiness is not just saying your girl I care for you, happiness involves material things too and women do like to have their makeup, parfum and some cash to be able to buy things once in a while. Never ask a woman, do you need $?, just give it to her, sure she needs it, even women with a lot of $ cannot deny they like gifts from their bf.So this is my advice to all those cheap guys that just think of sex, feeding your girl in a nice restaurant once in a while and that`s it! I have had a lot of relationships with latin women, I am dating a latin woman now, and the fact that I help her does not mean she scams me. I think the problem is not being american, the problem is that women scam gringo men sometimes because some cheap guy has passed by her life. Analyze these things and you will know I am telling you the truth.
jacktay , when you have a platonic relationship with a girl you could and should give her as many gifts as you afford as a proof that you really love her but after you have had sex with her the most appreciated gift that'll be considered a proof of an authentic love is to ask her to marry you .
Anything else sounds like you're paying for having sex with her .
It is hard to blame people with little money for wanting to be better off financially. Few opportunities, laziness and a degraded sense of personal responsiblility can lead to people turning to crime. i think the romance scam is a particularly horrible scam. It usually preys on sensitive people, men and women, who have had bad relationships in their life and are just looking for satisfaction in a stable relationship. The only answer to that is to give gifts to your prospective partner - signs of love, but dont give money and dont put yourself in financial difficulty with the gifts.
But when I was in Panama for the most part i saw an awful lot of very hard working people. There were many beautiful women working hard in hotels and bars, when they just as easily could be trying to get money from rich men and for a lot less hard work. I found Panamanians to be very helpful and honest. Why should a few bad apples that probably exist spoil the appreciation one should have for goodwilled and hard working people.
Even some of the Colombian girls that hang around in casinos, one could argue, are honest. If they want to exchange money for sex, at least one knows where one stands with them. I would not recommend to them that they do such things, but there is no scam involved there.
I am sure many of the Colombian girls are probably feeding a family back home.
I imagine some are. It is impossible to blame people for wanting a better life for themselves and those they care about. If sex for money is a way to achieve that, as i said, it is not dishonest. And I imagine there are plenty would rather find another way, but maybe they have great difficulty getting work.
I regard myself as very fortunate that I can offer my sexual services to rich women for free ;-) Sorry if that is a bit tasteless - British humour.
That is right!, but if you ask her to marry you and you are a cheap guy, she will divorce you. Women not only need good sex, they need attention emotionally and economically speaking.
