    Quality American Woman

After reading this forum, I am having second thoughts about moving to Panama.

I am a quality American woman, very intelligent, attractive, successful...looking for a new life in what appears to be an awesome county.

But if what I am reading in this forum is indicative of the attitude of men towards woman in Panama, well I am not sure I want to be in that environment.

I would be interested to hear other's input on this subject.

    attitude towards women?!

    hi pg,
as in any country around the world there these men and that men...
of course, there`s a lot of machismo here, but- this is the latin american culture, i`d say.
i dont know what you heard so far, but if you want to be left alone- just show them.
we are living in panam since three years, already had many girls working with us and noone ever complained about panamanian men!
just stay away from the cantinas (but as a quality american woman you wouldnt go in there in any case) and everything is cool.
    greetings from panama

I probably didn't word my concerns correctly.

I am a divorced woman, with a successful photography business here in the US. I want to move to Panama and open a photography business there, but I would also like to date and meet new friends...start a new life.

But, from reading this forum, I get the impression that men in Panama are not really interested in quality American women. From what I have been reading here, there are so many "hot, young Panamanian woman looking for men" and not many quality men over there that would be interested in quality American women.

I don't want to move there and become a hermit.

I suggest you first visit before making a final move. Since you already have an established business you shouldn't just dive in there. As for the business itself, most likely that will do well. As for the dating, I can't answer that really..Every country has good and bad people, even if a majority of the men over there would not be suitable husbands or even friends, I'm sure there's still a good guy out there that might even be your future husband. It's just a matter of whether you will ever meet them or not type of deal. Even here in the US there's a handful of lousy husbands, the divorce rate is a bit too high in my opinion. But like I said, I suggest you save up some money so you can just take a quick trip over there and just use it to meet people. If you like the atmosphere then look into it, if not then perhaps it might not be wise to dive in there yet.

Another tip is that you can usually avoid the bad guys by avoiding bad areas. For example going to a sleazy bar will probably result in only finding guys interested in short term "relationships" whereas a church might have better results.

This isn't always the case though, but when you don't know anyone it can help you avoid the obvious trouble.

Don't worry about it at all. Yes, a lot of the guys here focus purely on young girls who are hot and happy to please them in all the ways that guys like to be pleased. Submissive, pretty, less than intelligent girls have a broad appeal and expats don't tend to be "9 to 5ers".

However, there's also a large population of expats from around the world here who are interesting, intelligent and single. There's also a % of Panamanians who are well educated and well traveled. Any of them who are single will tell you that this is a paradise for intelligent, attractive women.

Even with tens of thousands of young, pretty girls, the incidence of intelligent, attractive women is very scarce. I know a few and they get snapped up almost immediately and have full domain over who they spend their time with and plenty of backup options.

If you've decided to come down, do it. You won't regret it and I'm sure you'll find someone who's perfect for you. Tell me more about you and I'll be happy to introduce you to a few people when you get here.

What actually the specification for quality American girl. Do you mean the quality is about virginity or the beauty. It is subjective right. By the way I'm also looking for quality American girls. What I mean by quality I will share later.

    Hey Photogirl,

You are pretty accurate in your assumptions. However, MacKenze is also on the money.

One female friend with her boyfriend came down here and they left partially because she felt she couldn't compete with the women down here and she's quite beautiful. The competition is fierce and the women aren't shy down here.

That being said, there's plenty of guys that are attracted to North American women because it's "exotic" to them. Most of my Panamanian friends are in that boat.

So, it's a mixed bag... Just be patient and you'll find "your zone".

    Matt

    Thanks Matt.

What a shame your female friend felt she had to leave for that reason. Sounds crazy.

I am sure I'll find "my zone". I have this crazy dream of living in the mountains with a natural pool or river for swimming. However, I would still need to be close enough to the city to conduct business from time to time.

I currently live on a big beautiful lake in Florida. My business is an easy half hour commute - I go in two or three days per week for client appointments and work the rest of the time on my home computer doing digital art. It is very nice. But I am ready for a change...its time for a new chapter in my life.

Here is a photo I took from my dock.

Photogirl - I am a single American guy who has lived here for about 1 month. I don't think you will have a problem meeting a good guy here. There are plenty of decent guys looking for a good girl here.

YES it is true and no secret..
alot of Panamanian men are womanizers and real macho men. however not all are the same. my boyfriend isn't that way. so it depends on the person and how they were raised. he also has 2 sisters and was raised by his mother. that shouldn't be a deciding factor if you move to Panama though. there are plenty of single, decent men in the city I'm sure. you just have to have a good judge of character.

In general, men's attitude toward women in Panama is no different from their attitude toward women in the U. S., or anywhere else, for that matter. Your concern is disproportunate to reality, as it takes all kinds to make comprise a world, or any segment thereof. Anything that you might gather from this forum is not necessarily a reflection of the country as a whole.

So, just relax, be yourself, reject what you don't like and accept what you do, as you would anywhere.
