OK, this is for all the single guys out there looking for love or whatever in Panama. Glory be, as a single white guy from the USA the women will look at you like you are Brad Pitt. Doesn't matter how old you are, but do remember, you are probably worth more than their 3 generations of their extended family combined. There are good and bad women in Panama, there are clubs you can go to in Panama city (I know of one in particular, Wednesdays are HOT!!), that you can walk out with one or two women, maybe they charge, maybe they dont, but most have regular day jobs. There are also regular good old fashioned liscensed brothels as well. Lesson number one, WEAR A CONDOM!!! Dont be stupid, forget what the pope says. Now there are plenty of women that will be looking for USA guys, there are allot of very good Catholic, family oriented women in Panama that want a stable family and honestly if I had to choose between being marrying dirt poor or "rich" I will take rich. There are also ALLOT of very educated professional women, lawyers, real estate agents, bankers, teachers that cannot find a decent man in Panama. As a US American you can set your sights as high or as low as you want, no kidding. If you actually go out on a real date (not just sex), wait a couple of times before buying her anything. If she starts asking for stuff right from the get-go she cares about your wallet. If she does not ask for anything she cares about you. PHewwwwwww!!!!!

That's good advice for people who are looking for a relationship: don't buy her anything for a while. It's the only way you can tell if she is just in it for the money.

Big newsflash for you guys: Some women will lure you in by pretending not to care about material gifts and favors. This can go on for weeks, months or years, depending on the size of the eventual payoff.

I've seen it happen before with a friend of mine (he: American, she: Panamanian).

Hey there single guys, there is actually not much to worry about if she is only interested in your wallet. Double check with an attorney, but it is my understanding that if you have a secret account in a Panama bank or keep your money out of the country, WHO CARES if she is interested in your wallet????? SHE CANNOT GET S*&T!!!
This is not the US or a European country that automatically entitles her to half of what you are worth. From what I understand even monthly child support is less than a good dinner in a decent restaurant. I am not saying go ahead and leave a trail of illegitimate children across the country but the worry factor really is not there. Once again I stress talking with an attorney just so you know what you are getting into.

Yeah, if you really wanted to you could go seed planting until the day you die. Once again I stress the importance of an attorneys advice on this matter. I think that if you actually own property or something else of value within Panama she might be able to get some of it. If you are retired or getting your regular check outside of Panama, what is the point of owning something when rent is really really cheap! Keep it in a US or other foreign bank and she is S.O.L.

Exactly. That's why I always wonder why some guys seem to get so obsessed with a girl they barely know who doesn't like them and just uses them for money and stuff. Have you seen this type of situation? I see it often. Why not just forget the selfish girl and go find some new ones.

That is personal preference, if you are looking for allot of tall blondes, this is probably not the place. I am already tall and blonde and after living in Florida for so long I have developed an interest in olive skin. Not to mention these women come from Colombia, Brazil, Spain, many countries in between, and have combined in some cases. As far as I am concerned, these women are really smoking HOT!!!!!

That's true, and she probably knows that. However, this isn't a game where she has all her cards on the table. She will try to make you fall in love with her, and then her aunt will get sick, her grandmother will need an operation, her cousin will want to travel to the US to see his little niece for the first time in his life, and so on. You will become her family's walking ATM machine and you will feel morally obligated to help out wherever you can. If she's really sophisticated she will even "suggest" some profitable investment opportunities, etc. So, my advice to the guys here is don't get attached and don't fall in love unless you know exactly what you're doing!

It depends on your point of view I guess; I'm a woman myself so I might be a bit biased, and I'd say that as in most countries, there are some beautiful women and some not so beautiful women in Panama.

Some do, some don't. Most will understand at least a few words. If everything else fails, there's always sign language.

Good advice PanamaPat, always watch out. If you really look at it I dont know if "gold-digging" is much different than the US and that can go both ways. As far as translation goes between a man and a woman, is there nothing that cannot be resolved without a little alcohol and a beautiful natural beach or mountain setting?
Quick story: I know of a man that lives in Boquete, mid 50's, got married to a local woman in her thirties with 2 kids, seem happy.
Quick story 2: While house hunting in Panama city I met an Aussie, mid 50's, drives a rice rocket, has a 20+ wife, has 2 kids with her, seems happy.

What's that mean? - People put up a good front, maybe? Find a good one, dont let Mr. Happy make all the decisions.

I know several Americans who have found love in Panama. The usual caveats apply but for the most part, as long as you speak the same language (Spanish or English), and stick to independent girls that make their own money and are not already starving, it can actually work.
