Anyone know this restaurant? I read in a guide book that it has a good sushi buffet Monday through Thursday, 12 noon to 3:00 PM. That, however, was written in 2006. What's the present situation?
It's good: nice interior, tasty food, mid-priced, parking available. Sorry, I don't know about the lunch buffet; I only go there for dinner. There is now a second Sushi Itto located in Multiplaza.
Other decent sushi places are Decapolis, Sushi Express, Sushi House, Sake, and Fuji. I like Sushi Express, because it's inexpensive and close to my home; some of my friends think Sake is the best. It's located across from Multiplaza.
However, when it comes to sushi/sashimi, you'll be disappointed if you're using San Francisco or New York (or, of course, Japan) as your point of comparison; Panama City has some good sushi, but not *great* sushi. Ditto Mexican food: It just can't be found. (El Patio is the only place that comes close.)
I will have a ten hour lay over in mid-January (a Wednesday) as I come through the airport. I was hoping to come into Panama City for lunch and BRIEF taxi tour through the city before getting back to the airport for an 8:40 PM flight. Sushi Itto caught my eye in a guidebook because of the sushi and buffet, but I am open to other suggestions. Just about anything will beat an in-transit lounge, if the logistics can be managed.
Up to you, of course, but I wouldn't choose a restaurant on the basis of its buffet if I had less than 10 hours to tour the city. Instead, I'd go to El Trapiche on Via Argentina, where I could a) enjoy typical Panamanian food, and b) sit outside on the terrace and people-watch.
