I didn't realize Panama has a rather small number of population, and pretty much 1/3 of them living in Panama City.

It makes a country very easy to manage when the population is so small.

Yeah, but I believe to be a powerful country nowadays you would need a huge population like US and Russia.

Panama has a population of about three million people. The land area is about 30,000 square miles. There are about one million people living in and around Panama City. Residents from outlying areas flow into the city daily to sell their wares and to shop at the market places.

panama is a small country with quite a less number of population, much lesser than any american state but it is quite manageable and peaceful,so much better than many highly populated countries.

Ankuranks--there are quite a few U.S. states with populations less than 3 million, in fact there are quite a few with numbers less than 1 million...plus the overseas territories...

By the way, speaking of those people how many of them are not exactly locals but from other countries and which region has the most of them? Are there many illegal immigrants as well?

There are illegal immigrants everywhere, Nuaeman, what differs is the amount of media coverage provided. You can find Colombians in Panama illegally, perhaps running from, or working within the drug trade or the fascist gangs. You can find Americans and Europeans who have overstayed their visa--that is illegal.
There are quite a few of any variety of illegal in Panama City, and those from other countries in the other provinces as well. It just doesn't pay well to try and work anywhere in Panama without proper documentation and education...

Cheers.

How do you sort out illegal immigrants? Especially when the majority of the illegals are from other South/Central American countries with same Spanish-Indian population make-up?
It is not as if they have giant targets painted on them!

It will be a problem as long as it is still somewhat unsafe in Colombia for certain political groups...

Cheers.

Well I guess it's like how we sort out original softwares and illegal ones, I'm not sure over there but here we have this people who has the authority to check up directly on people especially suspicious ones by asking certain questions, showing identification and so on but it's rather rare to find them around. I believe it's not difficult but rather if it's due to other reasons if you know what I mean.

Immigration control and the police are just not paid enough to care about checking everyone's identification...

Cheers.
