Thread: HELP!! fishing tackle store(s) in Panama?

I have looked and looked, I can not believe there is not a store/shop to purchase gear that would be easier to have not been packed. Alas, I came up with nothing so far. I am flying in to PC on Feb 7 for 6 weeks and at this point I am down to packing 1 pair of underwear and 3 socks (not pairs mind you), and still don't have enough room for all my gear!! Does anyone know of any stores that sell big time saltwater gear between PC and Santiago? thanks ahead of time Fishy

Again, thanks pingun. Are prices for tackle similar to that in the states? The couple websites that were in that directory had very limited info, including no prices. With the bit that I did in fact glean, I may be packing at least a 4th sock!

Been to Panama fishing for the past 4 years with 3 of my brothers. We always bring our gears with us (too expensive in Panama) and your options might be limited. Good luck and Happy fishing

The only real stores you'll find are in Panama City. Try Pesqueros, The Fishing Store, Abernathy, and Alta Pecsa. All have decent gear. Not as comprehensive and cheap as in the states but pretty good. If your counting on finding specific gear do not count on it. Better to contact these guys first via email/phone to get idea of what they have specifically. Good luck!

My husband, the fisherman, is providing the following information: there are several fishing tackle shops in Panama City. If you give me a list of what you need I can try to find out what the cost will be if you buy it down here. Will be more then the US as we have to pay import duties etc.. Most things can be found down here.

Thanks again, at the risk of sounding like a negative Norte Americano... their websites really are basically useless. Zero information other than their address, phone number and pictures that are from the manufacturers. That said the phone numbers and adresses will be useful. (I know I know). Thank you for the offer Francis, very kind of you two, but I think I can take it from here. Counting the days!!

Panamanians usually blame their laziness on the Americans.

Apparently they were overpaid in the canal zone and also Americans pay 20 % tip even with shitty service. That's why they are so lazy, someone else's fault...... as always. Bad gringo!
