Looking for last-minute budget travel advice

Sorry if two different posts with the same content show up on this forum; I've tried over and over again to post from the first account I created with no success, so I tried creating another one.

Hello everyone. I'm arriving in Panama late Saturday night (Spirit flight arriving at 1:30 a.m.) for an extended ultra-budget backpacking stay. Was going to be meeting up with a friend who speaks Spanish and was to handle all the plans including finding the cheapest local hotels, but friend is running late so I'm going to be in the country by myself for a couple weeks. I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to chill during that time and wondered if anybody had any advice.

The hostels in Panama City seem to run high, and I'd like to get out and see somewhere else anyway. The best plan thing I found is to get right on a bus to David where there are $8 hostels or continue on to Boquete where there is a $7 hostel. I could even go straight from the airport to the bus stop for David since there is a bus leaving at 5:30 a.m. so I wouldn't have that much time to kill.

Does it sound like an okay plan to show up at the bus stop for David a couple hours early in the middle of the night? Is it a safe area? (I'm female) Is it a place where anything will be open for me to get something to eat?

If you recommend just staying the night, will Panama City hostels check me in in the middle of the night?

    Thanks!

I would take a taxi from the airport to Allbrook and then get on the 5:30am bus for David. IMO, all 3 are safe. Wandering around other places at night or the city buses, maybe not. As you get to David, ask to get out early, near the hostel.
