Hi, we're flying out of Panama early in the morning of April 10, looking for an inexpensive place to stay the night of April 9. Prefer close to airport so transportation isn't such an issue in the morning.
Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Susanna

The Riande is about a mile away, easy to get to the airport. We stay there, but you never know what kind of room you will get. Some are good, some bad, but always clean. They have a restaurant and a pool, but no internet in the rooms, only the lobby.
All of the feedback provided above is spot-on in my experience. Having said that, it is the only hotel I'm aware of that could even remotely be considered close to the airport. On our next trip down, we are planning on spending the night in Houston and then getting the early flight the next morning to Panama. By arriving early in the day, we won't have to stay in PC and we can get on the road to the interior during daylight. Leaving Panama is another story... We will probably just suck it up and spend our final night at the Riande, even though it is overpriced and the rooms aren't really that nice...
Thanks, all, I had looked at the Riande, but its mixed reviews and relatively high prices made me a little uneasy. Any other suggestions? Willing to consider hostels, B&Bs, etc.
Ya, the Riande Aeropuerto sucks but it really is your only choice. I will do the same as TennVol and do my overnioght in Houston next trip. You can get a room in Houston for $30 less and you won't have suitcases rattling across the tile floor all night!!
Did exactaly that last trip down, except stayed at Venito on ther return trip. Worked very well. However someones first time coming into the city, looking for close and simple, hard to beat the Riande. They have a shuttle pick you up at the airport for free and your at the hotel 5 mins. later.
Agree with all comments about Riande. I usually stay there anyway. You can drop your rental car off a day early and have them shuttle you to the Riande for the night, and back in the morning to catch your flight. That savings makes the net hotel price cheap.
The last time I went there without a reservation they did the old "oh, we are all full but we might be able to find something for you - at big $$" thing. Of course they weren't full. Wifi doesn't work in most rooms.
Forget it - stay in PC and rent/return a car there. A taxi from PC to the airport is OK in the morning. The reverse is fine in the evening.
Susanna,
I have a bed and breakfast here in the city and only 20 minutes to the airport. I also have transportation to and from Tocumen. My rate is only $75 and breakfast for 2 is included. Take a look here Casa Las Cumbres B & B bed and breakfast - Panama City, Panama. Panama City Bed and Breakfast Inns. . If you wan to stay you can contact me at panavestor@yahoo.com.
Thanks,

Thanks, Dave. I looked at your website, says you serve breakfast from 7 AM. We actually need to be at the airport by 7. . .
We can serve you breakfast and still have you to the airport by 7 AM if you like. We will cater to the needs of our clients.
