I'll be traveling to Panama in June and had a few questions about local air travel. Looks like there are two choices, Aeroperlas and Air Panama. Are the departure times fairly reliable? We have limited time and were considering flying from Boca to Panama City a few hours before the flight back to the US. I realize this will also require a trip from Albrook to Tocumen. It sounds like the planes are decent sized, so I don't suppose weather is a concern. Also, will we need to buy the tickets very far in advance?
The tickets are valid on any flight 3 months from the date they were issued (could be flight date too). Forget about the dates, just buy a bunch of tickets. You can change persons, direction (I am flying backwards today). Aeroperlas charges for changes, Air Panama does not.
Local flights do not go from the international airport as you write. On Friday at 5 PM that could be a 2 hour drive worst case scenario. Cab is about $30 to get you to the international airport. 2 hours for check-in, strip search, beating. 5 hours would be good to have on the time table. Flights are usually +/- 20 mins. Only catch is a bad crash on the road to/from.
