Monkey Island Tour
Hello all,
I've got friends in town and we've heard about the monkey island tour at Gamboa....Anyways, my question is, is it worth the trip? I don't have a car, so it would require renting a car and then obviously paying for the tour (roughly $36 per person). Thank you for the help.

It is great, especially if you have kids in your group. We have been 4 times. The guide really makes the difference in the experience. Nice to have lunch at Gamboa on the river after.

Sorry have no photos. Picture a trip on a small boat through a large lake surrounded by tropical rainforest. The boat takes you to a small island, and around several others. You do not get off the boat. The monkeys come to you and sometimes even jump on the boat - they can be quite bold. They are quite used to visitors now, and look forward to the bananas the guides bring. Donīt give them other food it may make them sick.

I think it's always a new experience to go to a new place. And a trip to monkey island at Gamboa is just another fantastic lifetime experience. The tour our provides a unique opportunity for viewing wild monkeys in their natural habitat and you get a chance to spot few other species as well. You may find lazy sloths sleeping in trees, stoic aligators and turtles as well. You get a chance to spot huge container ships during their passage across the world a s the boat passes through the Panama canal.

In my opinion the trip you were mentioning @ $36 per person is more than worth the money. Gamboa is renowned for it's spectacular scenery and wildlife. I will strongly suggest you to go for it.

I have never been there. But from reading other people's comments I really enjoy it and maybe I will visit it in the future. Can you just explain more in details where this island is exactly located and how can I get there? Thanks in advance.

You can take a boat tour through the Panama Canal Zone. If you visit the island, you will be able to watch Cappuccino monkeys and Howler monkeys in their natural habitat. The boat ride to and from the island passes through the Panama Canal, so you'll get a good view of the Canal as well.
Gamboa is about 45 minutes from Panama City, if you go by Taxi. Monkey Island (Located in Gatun Lake) is about 15 minutes from Gamboa by boat.

This tour sounds amazing, I didn't think such a place existed. As far as Monkey Island goes, I had only heard about it from a video game.
As for the price, sounds very reasonable considering what you get out of it. I mean a trip to the zoo over here in the US costs about ~$10 (more or less depending on which one) for an adult, so you're paying about double that but it's a more interactive experience.

The best thing about Monkey island is that you can observe the different primate species in their natural habitat. But if you are having plenty of time to spare, you should venture out to the neighbouring islands as well, as they are also abundant in wildlife.

In my opinion little children are very fond of wildlife. Surely they will enjoy the trip. Also, they will gain a lot of knowledge about the natural habitat. When I visited the island, the children who were in my team were pretty excited as well.
