I used my Visa card which was accepted anywhere there was a credit card terminal. Some individual stores may not accept American Express because of their charges to that retailer but you're pretty safe with Visa and Mastercard.

By the way, "American" has nothing to do with whether they are accepted. It's a question of what type of card it is: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Diner's Club, Discovery etc. (in diminishing order of acceptance)

I have been able to use VIsa and Mastercard everywhere without a problem. Also american cash is always excepted, but surprised that euros arent as widely used or accepted.

I saw that across from the Venetto Casino there is a restaurant that accepts Euros. I am sure it will catch on as the dollar continues to have problems.
