Captain Morgan invading, probably because I used to drink the rum allot. I always envision him getting off his pirate ship with bottle in hand saying "Where are the Colombian girls at"?????
There of course is allot of history in Panama. The most significant in my opinion would probably be the canal.
The Independence struggle was the most impressive in Panama history...although it didn't take much time to get it's independence
Hmmmm, I think its the Captain Morgan! LOL!!!!
Most significant event will be the construction of Panama Canal and the events associated with it. The other ones doesn't even come close. By the way.. I am no expert in history... just sharing my view here. The enormosity of Panama Canal is such that it overshadows everything else.

The thing that impressed me most in the history of Panama is the construction of the famous Panama Canal. It was a landmark historical achievement joining two continents together.
Hehehe.. Good catch MRWOOHOO
What I remember the most from my tour of the canal was the number of people who died in the construction.
Some 20,000 people -- mostly French and mostly from dengue/malaria.

To me, the most impressive and significant achievement in Panama's history is getting Uncle Sam to the bargaining table for what would eventually become the Carter-Torrijos Panama Canal Treaties. It lead to the re-birth of Panama as a nation on December 31, 1999. On that auspicious date, Panama not only assumed sole operation of the canal, but gained full sovreignty over all it's land, which up until then excluded the canal zone.
The exodus of the United States resulted in the emancipation of a nation who owed it's smooth secession from Colombia (on November 3, 1903) to the departing superpower.
