Thanks for the link. It seems that Panama had a very history before it gained independence. It get caught between the military forces of Columbia and the United States.
According to popular history, Panama wasn't 'caught' between the Columbian and U.S. forces; Panama used the help of the U.S. (much to the benefit of the U.S.) to rid itself of Columbian rule, and continuing imperialistic leadership tactics. And, of course, all of this mess started with the Spanish explorers in the 15th century...but that's another story.
There was a few times U.S. troops fought somePanama people in Panama. Generally, those were in the interest of Panama as a while, because the U.S. would attack the thugs in Panama, whether those thugs were revolutionaries or the military.
