    Banco Delta - Panama

Tried to open a bank account with Banco Delta.

    1. Standard package with 2 personal references and 1 bank reference.

    2. Had to go to bank once again so they could copy EVERY page of passport.

    3. Person who handled case got laid off or left.

    4. About 2-3 weeks passed, no communications.

    5. A few phone calls, nothing resolved, went to bank, they claim to have lost all paperwork.

They also said that all paperwork given to the bank expires within 1 month, even if they lose it. They refused to cover any costs associated with the damage they have caused.

Banking in Panama - ALWAYS A PLEASURE.

I opened my HSBC account in person and brought a lawyer with me. She got people hopping, brushed us past the guard letting folks in a few at a time and made sure some aggressive Colombians trying to do the same thing didn't get ahead of us. Of course, I had all the paperwork ready. It took time in the morning and then another trip after lunch, but they were busy. Due to "computer problems" I still had to go back months later when I was in town to enroll in online banking, but the account was set up and the funds were in it. She's sort of a friend now and didn't expect to even charge me, but I know time is a lawyer's stock in trade--everywhere--so I gladly paid her a nice fee for helping me. Many on this board could handle it themselves, but I'd still be trying to do it if I were there alone.

HSBC is well known as the four letter word in Panama banking, stay clear if you expect service. Took me three visits of one hour each to get a simple bank reference letter.

I have accounts at ScotiaBank and MultiBank. Both are very customer service oriented, at least by Panama standards.
