    Panama in March! YAY!

    Hello!

My husband and I will be coming down for our first trip to Panama in March! We will be staying in Bouquete for a week while I do some research on orchids and my husband checks out the community. We will then have another week to explore. We are seriously considering retiring to Panama so my question is; since we only have another week should we fly back to Panama City, rent a car and make our way to Pedasi and back? Or should we explore the Carribean coast, and how would that best be done?
    Thanks!!

    Welcome!!

You will want to take a day trip over to Finca Dracula in Volcan. They specialize in orchids. I know several orchid enthusists here in Boquete.

you might just rent a car in David while you are in boquete so you have wheels there and then drive to pedasi when you finish up there , it takes about 5-6 hours to get here from David and you will get to see some nice country on the drive

Thank you both!! Yes we will be renting a car in David and I have made contact with a few people in Boquete to help me with my research.
Since we are staying a week in the area of Volcan and Bouquete we have decided to fly back to Panama City and rent a car there and travel South. We will stay 3 days in San Carlos and three days in Pedasi and then back to Panama City to catch our flight out.
Any recommendations of "must see" or "must do"? We do want to check out places to perhaps settle when we retire. Any suggestions??
    Thanks again!!

i dont understand why you would fly to the city and drive back , would it not be better to drive to pedasi from david , then drive to san carlos and then drive to the city and fly out , ?

Hmmm, I guess I was thinking I would have to return the car to the same place we rented!! But it does make more sense to just drive from David!! I hope you are not thinking I am completely daft!!
That being said (haha) can you give me some recommendations of what to see and where to go especially if we are thinking of retiring to Panama? Also, any recommendations on a car rental company??

on where to go and what to see , it would be great if you could see the whole country , but not possible in your time frame , so maybe do a bunch of reading and kind of decide what areas might interest you . you have every climate here , boquete = cool spring like with lots of rain . down to the ocean that is hot but also more humid . but remember you get climatized , i live near the ocean and dont even notice the humidity any more , have met people who lived in boquete and after a few yrs found it cold . small town , mid sized town or the city , is being near other gringos really important , and if so does it have to be a large number , are u healthy of do you need next to the hospital , do you think you need to live in a gated neighbourhood , places in the city it might be a good idea , where i am not needed . hopes this helps but try to narrow it down to some of your needs and then others might be able to offer more info
