    Buenos Dias, Panama

Getting ready for my first Panama trip. I am a filmmaker based in the U.S. Midwest (no, I haven't made anything you've seen unless you watch PBS at three in the morning). Since I did not grow up around a lot of oceangoing freighters in the Ozark Mountains, I look forward to hanging out at Miraflores Locks for parts of several days and making Panama the eighth country in which I've been to a baseball game, the 19th nation in which I've ridden a train and 22nd in which I haven't been detained by police. Thank you in advance for your help in all these matters.

I remember when I thought playing baseball during the day in Panama was uncomfortable because of the heat/humidity. That was until I played a game during the day in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in Jul. That was a hot frickkin day! Only night games after that one!

These are all night games except for one on Sunday that I may miss. I am leaving my parka at home.

There is a KPMG white paper on taxes that mentions tax rates for film companies which sounds quite favorable. Search for investment_in_panama_2009__long_table_of_contents_

Yes, many countries and states in the U.S. are trying to lure filmmakers with incentives like rebates on what they spend. Maybe someday I'll shoot a film in Panama. I'd certainly like to return.

You are not only film-maker here. Just met some folks filming a Mark Wahlberg film on the puerto balboa docks. ( i met them in Red Frog Beach, however) Think the movie will be called "Contraband" or something like that. My memory is sooo bad.
