    Question Hi

    Hello,

My name is Alan and my wife is Mary. We have a 10-year-old rescue dog named Tinker. All of us think it would be a good idea to give serious thought to retiring to Panama. So, at this juncture we are exploring this opportunity. I am a copy writer and plan to continue to work part-time after retiring. Mary is a certified "special education" teacher. Currently she tutors grade 2 - 8 students who are in need of help past what their schools can provide. Is there any opportunity for her in Panama? Tinker is permanently retired for the last 9 years and 11 months and just wants a place to run and sunbathe.

Please share with us your ideas about living in Panama. What do we need to be looking at? Where are the best places to live? We are thinking of a rental flat for a six month period as "trial period". Is the US ex-pat community close? Actually we have about a billion questions, but I somehow think most of them will get answered before we ask them.

    Regards,
    Alan

Welcome! You'll find lots of useful opinions here and hear about the good and the bad aspects of Panama, but the fact that we're all on this forum means we've all gone through the process you're begininng and have concluded that Panama seems like the right choice for us. This might be where the consensus ends!

    Re: Hi

Hi Alan and welcome. You may find work for your wife difficult as allot of jobs are reserved for Panamanians. Is your wife Bilingual?
As far as good places to live there are several. Boquete for the cool mountains, Santiago for inland living, Bocas Del Toro for beach and Island living and of course many more. I have found the expat community to be very welcoming in Panama. I have made some good friends scattered across Panama some of whom contribute here. Renting a flat for 6 months to check it out is an excellent risk free approach to see if it is right for you. Best of luck!!
