Going somewhere - not sure where?

    Hi,

New to forum, recently retired at age of 52 after 30+ years working in UK and 3 years in UAE. Want more from life than UK has to offer now so plan to be off to live somewhere else before long.

Undecided where yet though. Malaysia and Panama may be favourite. Do like Thailand too but a bit unstable at moment. Malaysia and Panama have good retirement visa options too. Also interested in France, Spain and Italy but a bit too touristy for my liking, not particularly good value for money either. I do like life and have a weakness for good food, wine, weather, really enjoy female company (in nicest possible sense). Speak French already, happy to learn Spanish.

Looking at the various threads at moment and it sounds good so far. Maybe I'll come out for a look around in a month or two. Will post a longer thread in a relevant forum with some of my background and thoughts on what I want and why.

Hola Templar, come on over and check things out. You won't know if you like it until you visit, very true. Countryside Panama is a bargain, Panama City can be expensive.

    P.S. Good looking women here.

    Welcome!!

Are you looking for beaches, mountains, hot, cool? Expensive, cheap?

    Hi

Posted the below " in quotes" before I realised you were answering about the hotel I'll leave it there anyway as the hotel would need to be close enough to the below to get a good look around for places to live, or at least get an idea. Costs not so much of a problem, certainly not a dump. Thinking 4 or 5 star.

"Don't want to be isolated, quite near beaches and not too far away from town, albeit not right in it. Close enough to walk or short taxi ride. Heat I don't mind, not sure what you have in mind re cheap/expensive - place to live or cost of living.

I enjoy cooking (professionally qualified chef), enjoy running and the gym, good music (albeit my taste in music is even more 'random' than my 19 year old niece - dance, electronica and hip-hop etc), good social scene (restaurants, GOOD bars), and various other past times. I also enjoy good movies so a good home cinema set up is a must.

So, cost of living as long as it's not more than the UK would be fine, place to live, somewhere nice, comfortable and accessible. Need three bedrooms really, one for guests and one for a study type use but it would need to be big enough (too difficult to explain why)."

Coronado area might be something you are looking for? I doubt you will find anything as expensive as the UK here.

As socialising will be high on the agenda (at least 3-4 nights week) is Coronado going to be active enough and with enough infrastructure etc? Just had a quick look at a couple of sites that suggest it's a bit undeveloped and maybe better for weekends. Would Panama City or nearby not be better?

I don't believe you would be happy in Coronado as a single guy. There is an incredible amount of nightlife in PC. Just my $.02 worth.

Thanks. I did wonder. Looking at Las Tablas too but maybe too quiet there too?

I find it interesting you consider Panama City to be expensive. To me it is super cheap, but I'm coming from NYC and you're coming from the interior. Panama City is still very cheap when compared to other modern cities of similar caliber. Of course it depends on the lifestyle and what you're buying. Local fruits will be for pennies, but custom computer parts may be more expensive than the US.
