Hi All,
I am a Brit and came to Panama in 2002 and purchased land in Bocas del Toro which was ROP land and still is despite various governments promising to Title it, my second mistake was to allow lawyers to talk me into suing for breach of contract knowing I had no chance of winning under the currant legal system, eight years later my lawyer has now gone to ground with $75,000 worth of bonding, saying their was nothing more we can do as the case was won three years ago but they just bribe the judges and it will eventually be thrown out. fortunately, I do not have to waffle on as a friend made a TV film (Paradise Stolen 2) of the whole story which I will attach to this mail, thanks for the welcome it will be interesting to hear some other stories.

I wonder how many people own stuff in Panama not even knowing it was fraud yet. Panama is a constant battle against people and companies trying to steal money.

What does "ROP" mean?

It means Right Of Possession. It's not "Titled" land and sometimes very difficult to Title without some one in the past claiming it was theirs. I treat all ROP as leased land. Don't invest too much time or money on it, some one may thank you later.

Found it, Bernie. Sorry that you had to go through this and lose so much money. However, the warnings about ROF land purchases have been there a long time now. Some people take a chance and win but most lose all their money. Personally I would never put money down on ROF land until the law changes and corruption is out. That will be a long wait. Too much money to be made under the blankets.

Keep in mind that the movie made is probably illegal and a felony in Panama since several people are being taped without their consent. In the latter part they ask for permission, but there are many parts where people are being taped illegally.

Time to give the scammers and rip off artists a taste of their own medicine. There is nothing these cock roaches hate worse than the bright light of negative publicity.

What would be really nice, would be if all the people who got defrauded were put in jail for defamation and illegal wire tapping. Then maybe the government would have to move in and actually do something.

Gotta love these 3rd world countries, first they defraud you, then they torture you in the legal system for 5 years, then they jail you and gangrape you.

Luckily I've stayed out of it. I lived in Costa Rica for 6 months before I came here and learnt the ropes.

The richer people there, they have 4-5 corps. One for each car, one for the house, one for this, one for that. All for a very good reason.
