Hi Becky thank you for the welcome.

Can you recommend a reasonably priced and safe area to live in Panama City. Some ideas on rental prices?

Any advice on dealing with the panama embassy?

What is it like to live there? How are the people?

    Thank you

    B C

welcome , i just have to ask , have you ever been to panama ? from the sound of your post , i am guessing ,no . if not you need to come visit a few times or spend a few months here before you decide you are moving to panama , it is a good place for some , and a hell hole for others , but the first thing you need to do is find out if you can work here , panama is more of a bring your own money country , and if you can , what are the wages ? i have heard regular school teachers make about $400 a month ,

Re: Moving from London to Panama in November 2011

I can't recommend any area in PC, we are in the interior and like it that way.....sorry, hopefully someone else can help you.

No problems at all with the Panamanian Embassy, just remember the mantra.......Patience, patience, and more patience.

To generalize the Panamanian people (which I really don't like to do too much of) they are family orientated, quick to smile, patient and kind.

Living here is so different than in the states. I needed a hose to hookup the propane to my BBQ. Took me 2 months to find one. It's not like running to WalMart, it takes time and digging. Lots of products that you are used to are not here. Do you like Frosted Flakes? Here they are Zugarates....(I may have misspelled that) and contrary to the hype, not everyone speaks English, in fact quite the opposite. Most of the young kids take English in school, so they can speak English, but not their parents.

We just finished our first round of Spanish classes and plan on more. Before we moved we bought a Spanish course that was on CDs we played to work and back every day. If you at least try to speak Spanish you will get a smile...

I've just started with Berlitz this week, so if you'd like to chat more about my experience with them, write me at mpele@hotmail.com
Do you have a job lined up already?
