My name is Rob Brown, however when attempting to introduce myself in Panama, they did not understand.
Rob or Bob did not register. Roberto got an immediate response.
Brown? Forget it - Brown does not translate well in Spanish - so I am now called Roberto Chocolaté.
I am a writer. My wife and I investigated retirement destinations for five years, discovering that many websites were simply fronts for real estate salespeople.
We decided to check it out ourselves and drove - along with our two big dogs from Picton, Ontario to Panama.
12,123 kilometers, 18 border crossings - checking out 26 retirement destinations along the way. I chronicled the trip on my website: http:/www.retirementdetectives.com - in an article called The Epic Journey.
Now that we are living full time in Panama (since 2007) we write about living and enjoying Panama.
I was the travel columnist for The Panama Star until it closed last September. (I hope it wasn't my writing).
I look forward to these discussions on The Forum.
Roberto

Reason: spelling mistake on it, left out September
Not sure if this post got posted - had a connection problem on the internet (Welcome to Panama) All Candians are invited to a party on June 24th in Coronado (Jean-Baptist Day) but you don't have to be a Quebecer to enjoy each others company. Send me an e-mail for your invite. There will be qualifying questions to weed out the Canadian wanna-be's, such as:1) What is the first and last letter of the alphabet? (must be administered verbally)
2) Who is the President of Canada 3) What is the Pizza Pizza phone number? Roberto
