    Hello, Hello, Hello

Hello everyone. This forum is VERY informative. I am a 37 year old living on Texas who just recently started receiving $1300/mth Social Security Disability and i'm veeeeery curious about the pensionado visa. I have seen where my receiving disability would qualify me for the pensionado regardless of my age but i'm wondering if this is still true? I say "still" because i saw on the Bocas Lawyer thread that HIV test are actually not required so i'm wondering if people on disability still qualify?.......hmmmm

The laws on Tuesday maybe different than when you apply? Get a lawyer, best way to find out. I am sure people here can help you find one.

Until a few years ago -- they didn't really care about age very much. And then they changed the laws. 55 is the minimum. Although if you have a VERY CONNECTED LAWYER, some people can get it in their late 40's. I'll ask around to see if it's in anyway shape or form possible. I'll post back in a few days.

Can you show me that law?

It does not exist as far as I know (or read).

I know a guy in his 30's got it a year or two ago. I read someplace that they have wide discretion on granting such things and could conceivably just say no...but never seen anything in the laws that specifically states age.

    Yes -- I couldn't find anything except:

    Panama’s Pensionado Program in Detail

The following are the benefits and privileges for all those classified as Jubilados & Pensionados (irregardless of age) and for all other residents of Panama be they Panamanian or foreign nationals residing in Panama in their 3rd and 4th Ages. It sets the age at 55 for women and 60 for men. Law No. 6 of 16 of June 1987, modified by subsequent changes in the law by Law 18 of 1989, Law 15 of 1992, Law 37 of 2001 and Law 14 of 2003.

And since I haven't had to deal with this personally with this since I got mine 4 years ago, I honestly do not know what's going on recently. I DO KNOW that about 2 or 3 years ago, everything was changing. People below 50 were getting denied unless they "knew" the right people. I have no idea if Martenelli has made things easier or harder. It almost sounds like it's a "case by case" thing. They did give a bunch of people their VISAS the other day. So things could be on the "up and up". I'll ask around to find out.

I have had my attorney since 2005 and found him to be very reliable. Roberto Guardia rig@origua.com
