    Impressions of Playa Monagre?

Hello - My husband and I are beginning our search for real estate. Our plan is to live there for 2 months and then return to the States for the rest of year until we retire, at that point we would be spending more time in Panama. We have stumbled across an opportunity to purchase a house that is on Playa Monagre. Unfortunately, this was not one of the beaches that we have visited so we are trying to determine if this may be worth our time or not.
Any impressions - good or bad will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

    Re: Impressions of Playa Monagre?

I have been to Playa Monagre several times. Well, I am pretty sure I have. This is the playa that is very close to Playa Rampio in Santa Anna? I believe that is Herrera Province. The area is fairly nice although I personally would not want to live there. I consider that area a "local beach". That means it is not very tropical in appearance nor well maintained. It is a nice place to go and have a fish plate and walk on the beach. The beach can be full of garbage and debris at times. The beach is a fairly long drive to Chitre where you would do your shopping. There is a bus that services that area, the little red Santa Anna buses and they come around about once an hour and cost 75 cents to take you to the bus terminal in Chitre. Whether you liked the area or not would be entirely subjective. My opinion is that it is not a beautiful enough area to justify purchasing expensive real estate. It doesn't speak to me. Consider the property only if you believe it is a "screaming deal". Location is everything in Panama. Be skeptical. It is better to rent these beach properties at first. Only buy one if you just can't live without it. Cause if you buy it it just might be yours forever. Good luck.
