    Re: Cigars

The cigar factory is by La Pintada (About 15 minutes in from Penoneme. If you are driving from PC, it is a very nice little sidetrip.) It is called Joyas de Panama. Just before you get to La Pintada, you'll see an old rusty sign for them. That is where you turn left and it is less than 1 mile on a VERY bumpy paved road. The cigars are mild, and I think very tasty. They are cheap also. If you buy them elsewhere in Panama, you pay a markup, but they are still very reasonable. Also, the famous Panamanian peasant hats are made there. (Buy them in La Pintada, not the cigar factory-usually $10 in town vs. $15 at the cigar factory). Boy, sitting on the beach under a peasant hat, holding a Joyas cigarro and a Cervesa de Panama longneck- nothing like it! Two weeks till I'm back doing just that! Can't wait!! Enjoy!!! Cal

    Hi!

How you say the cigars are $15 at the factory and $10 in town. How many cigars are you talking about?

    Thanks!!

I haven't been to the cigar factory in years. Miriam now delivers them to my house since I buy 10 bundles at a time.

Tabacos Costa has a factory/store on the left side of the road just before you enter Penonome coming from Panama City. The last time I was in town, the owner's son/manager gave my wife and I a tour of the place. The room where they keep the bales of tobacco from Cuba was especially nice and cool! I don't smoke cigars, but a lot of my friends here in CO do and they loved all the bundles I brought back.
