This place is known for carnivals and one of the well-known festival celebrated at this place is the Festival Nacional de la Pollera. Anybody here who was able to attend this festival?
What does Nacional de la Pollera mean? I assume the word Nacional means national. What does the rest mean? Namely, what does Pollera mean? Why is the festival names as such?
This festival is always celebrated with the day of Santa Librada, the patron saint of Las Tablas, on July 20th. The festival is where all the ladies dress in their very best polleras for display. There are many types of polleras, but the most famous and elaborate is the pollera de gala which is the national costume of Panama.
