confusing???

This really sucks ! I spent almost 7 years building our little hideaway on a island in Panama and now we may never get to live there part time as we planned . Because of my heart condition we have listed the property . Yesterday I was putting a photo album together to email to a perspective buyer . Then it just hit me hard .

I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS !!!

I am one of those "crusty old country boys" who never thought in a million years that I might consider living or liking another country so much .

So here I sit thinking which is better: To hell with the doctors and enjoy whats left of my life on my little island or to go the safe bet and stay put where I am and always wonder what could have been ??? Its been over a year since I was there now .

I made that "Panama Photo Album" my Computer Screen saver so I can look at it anytime .

Maybe it will help me decide .........

I'm sorry for you. That's a tough decision. I can't in good conscience recommend that you ignore the doctors and risk your health and life to live Panama.

Its the age-old old age set of questions; To live in the setting of your dreams for a few years in imperfect health? Or, to live in a setting that makes you a bit unhappy but keeps you alive for another 20 years?
Of course we can't exactly advise you either way, but does your American setting keep you stressed out? I can't imagine that's good for your heart either...

I honestly wish you the best of luck, its not a fun decision to make, but perhaps you could make one more trip down south to see your beach?

Cheers.

I think it depends on how serious the heart condition is, and what limitations it puts on you. In other words, it depends on how dangerous it would be to go to Panama, and whether or not you could get sufficient healthcare there.

I'm sorry for you, and I wish you the best.

Sorry to hear about your dilemma.
Doctors not being able to figure out what is wrong with me is what prompted me to want to move to Panama. We don't know how long we have on this rock. My motto has always been "no regrets". Granted, this philosophy has led me to say, "I wish I wouldn't have done that" on many occasions. I guess that is the question.... would you rather say "oops that was bad decision".... or.... "I wonder what would have happened if ???"
I would say follow your heart, but that sucker is the problem. Your gonna have to go with your gut on this one. (a little humor never hurts)

I guess most people don't lay on their death bed wishing they took less risks.

In many cases, fresh air, sunshine, improved nutrition and peace of mind can do a lot more for your health than medication. How serious is your heart condition and what was it caused by?

That's true, but it depends on the condition. Sunshine can't cure serious conditions.

Not knocking the credo of 'better food, sunshine and good vibes will lead to happiness,' I really think that Tarzan's medical history is absolutely none of our business. Its obviously serious enough to make the poor man put his beach property on the market; and whether or not his heart problem is caused by a congential problem or trauma, it is not our place to ask very personal questions. Should he feel like offering such info in a PM, fine--but please don't put him anymore on the spot than he already is by starting this topic. Offer your wishes for sunshine and good vibes, and don't be nosy.

and...

Ever had seasonal affective disorder? Its the apparent cause of Sweden's relatively high suicide rate...and its cured by sunshine!! Yeah!
Sorry, I was really just wondering why this comment was even put up--I think anyone over the age of 12 would probably agree with this one; "Sunshine is excellent, and necessary for life...but it won't cure cancer." And I think its a little silly that I responded to it--but someone had to...

Cheers.

So, we've established the sunshine can cure some illnesses.

Are there any updates on your decision tarzan95959?

I believe health is really important but it's hard to give advise as we're not sure how serious your heart problem is and such. I'm sorry to hear about it

i think you should consider about your health, its hard at times to let some things go in life but everything happens for betterment, there must be something better waiting for you where you will be going now and you might not realise it right now,may be you will in sometime.so i would recommend not to feel sad and be happy thinking that you will get something better.

HI,
I'm back ! I apologize for being away soooooo long . A lot has happened since my post . We did put the property up for sale and I have struggled with the whole idea of selling it ever since .
I went to my ranch in the Idaho Back Country to see how well I would like the winters. I froze my tail off and plowed more snow than I ever want to again . It was beautiful watching the Elk in the front pasture ,but I was called back to Calif because of my fathers illness . WE shut up the ranch and decided to only make it a summer home in the future .
We also decided to keep the House in Panama , so it has been taken off the market . We will rent it out for vacation rental when we are not there . My heart condition is about the same , but I just decided that my quality of life is more important than my quanity . Besides I need to lose a few pounds and this will be a good incentive
to get healthy .
So we have decided to return to Bocas Del Toro in March for about 2 months .
Now that I have a better PC to work from ,maybe I can tune in a little more . The Idaho ranch only has the little laptop and my fat fingers don't fit the keys very well .

good to see you tarzan, yes you are right, the quality of life is important than the number of years in it but i can see from your post that your life has changed during this time only for the betterment, and if you are finding difficulty with the laptop keyboard then take the external keyboard it will cost around 30$ and has comparatively quite bigger keys and i feel those are better ones too than any laptop keys.
