    Question Noriega

What are your Panamanian friends/neighbors saying about his return?

    Re: Noriega

Just had lunch with a very connected Zonian. He's heard through the grapevine that the Gov. brought him back to get some dirt on the other political parties. Feel free to fade this information. I'm just passing on what he said.

    Re: Noriega

this is not so much about his return but over the years i have talked to some locals that had no prolbem with him running the country , they have all said it was a lot safer then as he was the gang , not like now where there are lots of gangs in panama , and for the average Jose Sixpack he never bothered them . lots are still pissed at the States for over throwing him and killing lots of locals as they did so . but i guess i will have to ask them how they feel about his return now . and i would guess the PRD wishes he was not here .

That was told to me also: no (or almost no) delincuencia and a lot of Panamanians killed by the gringos during the invasion.

    Re: Noriega

I wonder where he would serve house arrest (which is legal under Panamanian law) Gov't may be willing to deal with Manny and allow that. It probably wouldn't cost him that much- relatively speaking. Many of his henchmen and associates are still around, and he should still have a giant stash of cash. He was purportedly a huge money launderer for the cartels, (not to mention his $100k and later $200k/yr. CIA salary) and dealt with Swiss and Caribbean banks. His mansion on the escarpment overlooking Decameron is a wreck now- roof even collapsing. His girlfriend in San Carlos has a nice beachfront, and I hear many cronies nearby. It will be interesting to watch....... Cal

    Re: Noriega

    I ran across this today:

Caretaker Found Dead at Residence of Supreme Court Justice in Chitre, Panama – 12 December 2011

On 12 December 2011 at around 0700 hours, authorities recovered the body of Pascual Núñez, 67, in front of the residence of Supreme Court Justice Winston Spadafora in Chitré [7.966673,-80.433226], Panama. The victim was later identified as the caretaker of the property.
Comment: Authorities do not believe this murder was a coincidence, as he was found dead less than 24 hours after the return of former Dictator Manuel Noriega. Winston Spadafora is the brother of the late Hugo Spadafora, an individual who exposed Noriega’s drug trafficking operations and was subsequently murdered in September of 1985. Noriega was tried and convicted in absentia for the murder of Hugo Spadafora.

    Take your pick:

    1) a good place to make him "pass away"
    2) a good place to administer truth drugs
    3) build up public sympathy for "house arrest"

Truth drugs, now?? For 20 years, the General was our guest in Miami ,then in Frogdom. I know the Pana powers still are dreaming of finding the stash (and believe me, if they ever miraculously did, we would never know!) I'll go with the Humanitarian Release!
