Thread: White fluffy stuff in title grout

In a few spots in my apartment every few days white fluffy stuff pops up from the tile grout. Very light stuff. Cleaning supplies, hydrogen peroxide have not worked. What does everyone else use? I am thinking it is a moisture thing with a substance in the tile grout.

What is it?

Salt in the grout. Water evaporates leaving the fluffy stuff. I am wondering how to treat it. Will sealing the grout work?

Salt? Where did it come from?
Do I need to re-grout?

I guess it was in the grout material. Hopefully we get an answer.

When we get the dry season in a few weeks it may go away.

Did u use grout with sand,or without sand?

I think that it is salts leeching out of the grout from moisture.

Find the source of the moisture and eliminate it. Not always easy to do.....Mine comes when the wind is just right and blows the rain into a west wall. It wicks into the grout in the bathroom and I get the fuzzies. Luckily it isn't bad and doesn't happen too often.

Dust in Panama City is coloured a very unhealthy black.

The dirt here in Boquete is black, that makes the dust black.....but the plants love it.
