As far as docs go I guess it all depends on what you are doing down here. Are you moving here to retire? To work? Or just a long vacation? I know as a retired visa holder I had to get a police report and my pension letter stamped at the Panamaian Consul.
If you are a reader you probably want to bring down an e-reader like a Kindel. Along with any other electronic stuff you are used to using, they can be expensive here.

Im far too young to be a Pensionado...I will be coming in a few months and with my cousin who is a citizen I will be working on starting a business...He had mentioned that he had to return to the U.S. shortly after his first arrival to get some paperwork that was necessary to his transition...I would have to make a return trip for some measly paper work so I figured I would see what all people wish/should have brought...And a E-Reader is definitely on the list

The US has decided to make it close to illegal for US citizens to do business abroad. US clients are not welcome around here in Panama anymore unless you already have your residency.

You should bring bank reference letters addressed to 4-5 different banks that are US friendly (Globalbank and Credicorp are not). The smaller banks are your best bet.

Also, notarized and embassy certified federal clearance record (if you intend to file for something within 3 months).

No interest in comparing wealth for I am not wealthy...I worked and saved and believe me I wish I had more...But I will take your 2 cents and add it to the only wealth that I am concerned with on the forum

So as far as the criminal record...I have read that you need only a letter of clearance from your local Police which I have gotten one before for a Brazil Visa...Do you need the FBI Record also or just one or the other?

Re: Things that you wish you had brought?

Hi there...this is a great subject since I am one month away from my trip and doing a drastic downsize. DR, you mentioned Farmacia regulations...I'm assuming that is pharmacy (spanish needs work!)..and that is an interesting point, although nobody addressed it.

What I would like to know is, if anyone had to ship their belongings overseas, what household things did they take, and what did they decide to leave behind? I made a move across the US years ago, and sold or gave away almost everything. I found that gathering all this stuff again was an expensive pain. What have others on this list done? I know that shipping costs are exorbitant. It was good to hear someone post about electronics. I thought I had read somewhere that Panama City had everything you could want in electronics, less expensive than in the States. Not true, huh? Then maybe I will buy a tablet before I leave.

I would bring a laptop, period. Everything else can be easily had here. This is a very different country, and you have very different needs.

I concur with the USA being cheaper for electronic goods such as laptops, phones, e-readers etc. clothes are a bargain in Panama though.
