Thread: Varments- Do you have problems with snakes and scorpions in Volcan or Boquette

I read that snakes and scorpions are a problem. But are they a problem in Chiquiri province.
The mountains is where I would like to visit.
Anything else you could tell me related to living comfortably in Panama will be appreciated.

I don't live in David. But, it is necessary to be tolerant of critters in Panama. I have never seen a snake in Panama even though I know they are here. We have mice, rats, many different kinds of insect pests including scorpions. You learn to deal with and live with critters here in Panama. If you are sensitive to critters than this might not be a good place for you to live.

There are both here. Some areas have a lot of scorpions, you just take precautions. Shake out your clothes and shoes, etc. There are snakes that come to visit too, but with a little encouragement, they go home. We have only ever had 1 scorpion, easily dispatched, and no snakes, but we have friends who have had 5 in a year and a half, so really not a big problem. This is the land of micro-climates, so the "wild life" varies accordingly.

I have no idea what plants will repel scorpions, but you can ATTRACT them with wood chip mulch. Which is to say, don't mulch with wood chips if you live in an area that has scorpions.

Yes lavender repels scorpions. If you bunch them together and beat the shit out of the offending insects with the bouquet.

I've been told that the Panama scorpion bite isn't that bad.
