Thread: What is (USPS)Express Mail in Panama

I want to get something from US. I emailed the person to ask if they ship to Panama. This is the reply:

The shipping cost to Panama is $XX, via Express Mail. You will be given a tracking number for your order and will be able to track the delivery status online at www.usps.com.

What does it mean on our end? Which party is going to fulfil the Panama side? Is it trackeable or the tracking ends once it reaches Panama?

Another I contacted usually ships by EMS, but for Panama, they ship by Post Office Airmail. What does that mean? What does Post Office Airmail mean in Panama?

I hope someone can shed some light into how this whole system works (or doesn't) in Panama. Thank you.

I shipped a package by USPS Express Mail to Panama....guess how long it took to get to a major firm w/n Panama City? SEVEN WEEKS!!!!

I have use USPS (United States Postal Service) before with no problems and you will be able to track your package in Panama. I live in Chorrera and I was told that the package was in Chorrera and went to the post office in Chorrera and pick it up it took 2 weeks, not bad for Panama.

I guess it is really a hit and miss situation. Do you want to take the risk?
I will be very very happy if it takes 2 weeks! I don't mind it late, but I mind it lost/untrackeable/damaged.

The last time I was flying to Panama via Continental Airlines was bringing with me 3 suitcases and 4 boxes, I didn`t have trouble with the 3 suitcases but they only allow me to bring one box. The other 3 boxes were ship to me in 3 different occasions with USPS, I was able to track and all items were in good shape when received. My family send the boxes through USPS and I received them without any trouble. Wish you luck.

Rigo - do you mind showing the website where you an track the packages within Panama? Calling someone who is speculating about the location does not qualify.

With my package, I knew when it arrived in Panama, then, when it was transfer to Chorrera, after that I just went to the post office and pick it up. The box can only be opened until you are present to pick it up not before and a person from immigration has to opened to make sure you not bringing funny stuff to the country. I think if it is less than $250.00 someone from the post office can opened it, if it is more a person from immigration has to come and open the package. I think I pay about $60.00 for the first box, the less money you declare, the less money you pay.

So, in summary, you have no tracking for what happened with the package in Panama. Immigration do not open packages, customs do, unless you are sending people in a container.

Ed, you have to realize this package generated in the USA not in Panama, even though the package is received in Panama, still under the jurisdiction of the US. Like I said before the country of Panama can not touch the package until you are present to opened in front of a immigration that works for the postal service in Panama. You do have the tracking from USA in Panama.

We ordered 2 diving computers (they look like very big watches and calculate depth, temperature, diving profile etc.) in the USA internet shop. The total price 440USD + delivery by USPS 35 USD.
It was sent to our home address in Panama City 9 December, Arrived to Panama 16 December and 22 December we got at home by courier blanc that it is in the Post office and we can take it. The same day we came to take it. We were asked to open it and the custom duty and sales tax was calculated from the invoice price and we had to pay it
440 USD*10%=44 USD
(440+44) USD *7%= 33,88 USD
