    History of diablo rojo

we all know and seeing the school buses (all painted up with mainly religious stuffs) all over Panama City. I guest it's fair to say that they are the backbone of Panama's transportation system. Reading threw another post, I've learned that they are called Diablo Rijo. I for one would love to know more about them. How do you know their destination, can one transfer from one to another (silly question), how much do they cost, and so on.
Please share your knowledge on this subject matter however big or small.

Read the front - it's painted or decaled on. The dude who works the door will usually yell out the direction of the bus. it costs $.25 and a transfer costs $.25! I believe you pay on the way out.

I believe a bunch of them are old buses from Quebec bc Quebec rotates them out fairly quickly.

    I have never ridden one.

So how safe are they??? . Never been to one either, but my Chicas would not be caught dead in one of them.

8 AM to sundown you should be fine, unless you go into bad areas. I take them to/from registro publico every now and then when I drop off/pick up my vehicles off for repairs. If you are directly on the travel line they are usually faster than taxis which often take detours and pick up other passengers. I think I remember at least one forum member being robbed (HOSEM1 maybe).

It says in the front Window. Also, you learn from your mistakes. Probably you have to ask people the first few times.
