Will Samsung Galaxy S 2 (Android) work flawlessly in Panama?

Hi all people from Panama forum!

I'm moving to Panama and was thinking should I purchase a phone from Europe to take with me. So I would like to know if my phone of choice would work in Panama without any problems in internet connectivity etc.

Below is the link for the specs:
Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II 16 GB Sim Free Smartphone: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

My plan is to use this as my work phone, just get the SIM card from my employer, I'm just not used to BlackBerry, at least not yet

Your comments are very much appreciated, thank you!

    Mika

Yes it should work on Masmovil. This is the exact phone that I am looking to buy. Now when you say: "work flawlessly" I have to tell you that nothing works flawlessly in Panama. 3.5G service is not offered in all the voice coverage area. You only get "good" data service in a few areas. At least this has been my experience with cell data service so far. I do must say it is getting better.

Hi, thanks for the info! Yes I also assumed that the 3G/data services are not yet perfect in Panama. I did some research and thought the phone would work on all of the operators as it supports most GSM/UMTS network types. Do you think Masvovil would be the only operator on which the phone is working?

Anyways, I pre-ordered this and will pick it up soon

I would assume I will work with the other carriers. The problem is none of the carriers here publish the band they use for 3.5G data. I did sent an email to Masmovil, which is the one I use and got the following answer:

    Estimado Sr. Xxxxxx:
    Saludos Cordiales,

Of course the do not use 3 bands for 3.5G Data. I am sure what the guy from support did was to read the specs. of a phone they sell. Any way the Samsung Galaxy Sii cover those 3 bands and 900.

By the way, which version of the SGSII are you getting UK, India or Korea?

Thanks again for educating me! I picked up the phone today, nice large screen and extremely light. I most likely have the UK version of the phone as I bought mine in Central Europe. Soon it will be time to test this in Panama.

Hello. I am European too. I have Galaxy S and and Galaxy S II. I recomend to forget about masmovil for now if you need good data quality and to connect to Claro. They offer contract and prepayed data plans. And they have just launched 4G coverege, supported by Galaxy II. The 3,5 G coverege in claro is perfect as well. With it i can drive 140 km/h and talk on skype with my car audio hands free system with great quality of voice. Claro is most modern network in Panama. Believe me I have masmovil in my other phone, but the quality of data is uncomparable.
