Panama City (Well to do vs. poor areas)

I need a brief breakdown of the poor areas of PC (their names).

If you can do the same for the middle class & well to do areas, that would be much appreciated.

Thank you & hope you are enjoying the gorgeous day outside.

I'd look on google maps. If you're not driving and looking to live someplace that limits your options.
    Central Areas are:
Bella Vista, Cangrejo, Marbella, Obarrio, El Carmen, La Cresta, San Francisco(pretty large area depends where you are), Paitilla, Punta Pcifica. All of those could be considered good areas, easy to catch a cab.
El Dorado has fairly high rents, but it's not the nicest looking area. Coco del Mar I don't know about, seems new and pricey.

Still not terrible you have parts of Caledonia near Bella Vista, Bethania, Parts of Pueblo Nuevo...I'd stop there. Clayton is a bit far. There are a lot of housing areas as well, gated and such...depends what you are after. Stay the hell out of Chorrillo, should have no reason to go there anyway. Rio Abajo is cheap but not the safest place.

one more thing, if it looks like a slum it is. It's pretty obvious here.

Coco Del Mar is on the outer edge of San Francisco near Atlapa and Corredor Sur. It's actually an older, well-to-do neighborhood with some nice, new buildings sprinkled in.

Nice neighborhoods in the zone include Ancon, Diablo, El Rio, Cardenas, Curundu Heights, Amador, La Boca, Balboa, Clayton...

What I would do personally, is to drive around. I would plan which districts I want to check out with google map, then armed with a GPS, I would drive. Observe the houses, streets, people, general upkeep of the neighborhood. Take down notes. Trust your instincts. As someone said, if it looks like a slum, it is one.

I agree with LionT. I also think you can get alot of info about a certain neighborhood or area by checking out the local grocery store. If you go to a "Rey" in certain areas you won't find milk on the shelves!
You can also tell alot about the population of an area by what they stock in the store. If you find lots of foreign products then you can bet there are alot of expats around.

And no, I don't have a car & need to find something asap, so I can't be driving for weeks looking at areas, I have to go by what is in the ads I'm looking at.

    Thank you

Tumba Muerto is a fairly long road. I lived off Tumba Muerto in Altos de Bethania which was a very nice area. Bethania is "kinda sorta" on the other side of Tumba Muerto from the El Dorado area.
La Chorrera is out past Howard on the other side of the canal. Not sure I would want to live there.
Tocumen is near the airport. Not sure I want to live there either.

What is it you are looking for? Price? Environment? It might be easier for the people on here to give you some suggestions, rather than guess.

Actually, I decide where I want to live, then look for ads.
Security guards are also a good source of info if you already know which building you like.

Re: Panama City (Well to do vs. poor areas)

    Hi,

Unfortunately b/c I'm on a time constraint, being choosy is getting me nowhere. I have to be out of here by tonight & I'm homeless

I wanted in the El Cangrejo area. Thought I found a place last night, but according to the girl I hired to help me translate, he rented it out last night after we left. : (

    Price - $400-600/month.

Room in a larger apt. or house.

I have a few other things I'm seeking, but that's the jist of it.

    Thanks

    Michelle
P.S. Liont - that's a good idea, maybe I should try & find the security guard in this building.
