Thread: Got almost robbed yesterday.

OK This is just to warn everyone.

A guy tried to rob me and my friend (two women) from our cellphones yesterday. It was in Punta pacifica close to farmacia Javillo, its the street were Super 99 Punta Pacifica is on. His mistake was to grab my friends cellphone with two hands (so did my friend) so I could try to kick him wich I'm not sure I really did, but at least intended. He let fo the phone and ran towards a taxi that was waiting for him. They were probable together looking for people to rob.

Please be careful with this, and watch out in what kind of taxi you get!

Sorry to hear this, but I'm glad you were physically unharmed, as it sounds. A "snatch and run" for a cell phone? And in such a "safe" area.

tazers and pepper spray are legal , everyone should have one, if not a gun , and i can see this happening in a ( safe ) area , as those people generally have more money etc . one touch with a tazer and this guy would have been on the ground pissing his pants until the cops showed up , and you could keep hitting him just for fun , glad you two are ok , now go get some protection for yourselves , better to have and not need , than to need and not have .

Anne, glad this ended well. There is no truly safe area as you can attest. Naked offers good advice. Thanks for sounding the alarm. Did you get the taxi #? did you report it to the police?

Are there places here that sell "protection" here or do you need to bring them from abroad?

I recall from prior forum discussions (and my own search) that there are tons of online retailers for all kinds of cool personal protection devices, including tiny, yet powerful tasers, masked as other items such as pens, lipstick, etc.

Yes i remember fleeted, i think, posted a link once on some crazy pepperspray gun. Seemed great but it looked kinda large. But was just wondering since you would expect there to be shops here if it is legal.

The lipstick stungun is great. You can go right through police patdowns and into night clubs no problem. Did it allot in PC!

You can buy all sorts of personal protection gadgets in Albrook mall. In a case like this the guy is hoping he can just rip the phone out of your hands and run. Not sure if you would actually get a chance to use mace, stun gun, etc, in this situation? If you are taking a taxi at night in the city make sure you have mace or stun gun handy, just in case.The expensive phones are a real target and if you are going to be using an expensive phone in public be aware of your surroundings.

I have an iphone 4, came out of the Venetto late one night as soon as I did a guy came up to me and asked can I see your phone I replied I don't have a phone he said yes you do I saw you using it in the casino, nothing happend but went in the next day and told suily the poker boss what had happend and she said she would let security know (that will do zip if you know the venetto)

I noticed that at super 99 in Punta Pacifica they sell pepperspray. Its just near the "caja". Im getting one soon! I wasent scared though yesterday, more mad Didn´t get the taxi number as it was a little to far away...also didn´t report it yet not sure if it would make any difference since I don´t have names/pictures or numbers. by the way on the other side of the road were some guys walking and they didnt do anything just like all the YEYE cars that were on the street....
