    Stray dogs

So, I've got a problem. There are 2 stray dogs that hang out right outside the house that I just recently bought in David, Panama. They are fine during the day and don't cause a problem. However, by the time the night comes around and I am trying to sleep they are CONSTANTLY barking...throughout the entire night. I've "slept" at the house 2 nights now but have been unable to fall asleep until 3 or so in the morning. I bought a really cheap pair of earplugs yesterday, but even those couldnt really drown out the barking. What can I do? Are their dog pounds? Any suggestions for higher quality earplugs? Please help!

    Re: Stray dogs

Barking dogs at night is one of the most annoying things ever. Unfortunately in Panama stray dogs are everywhere. In addition to the ear plugs have you tried a fan? the constant humming noise may help drown out the dogs if used with the ear plugs. There is no
easy solution to this problem. If they are truly strays you could relocate them some distance away but then they become someone elses problem and I suspect new strays will take their place. A friend of mine in Bugaba has similar problem with stray dogs. The dogs sleep in his backyard or near it. He battles a constant problem with fleas. He has sprayed the dogs with the water hose and even a squirt gun with some ammonia with no luck. Once the fleas got into his house and were a problem ridding the infestation.

You should probably move back to the United States if the problem continues. I hear NC is a great location.

Chunks of red meat dipped in anti-freeze ought to solve your issues (Just Kidding, or am I?).

    Very helpful 1'st post!

...I would suggest taking them on a long road trip out to the middle of nowhere and drop them off. At least then they would have a chance. With antifreeze, they've got no chance at all - but it will get rid of the problem.

Cruel, man... and as previously said, if it werent these dogs there, it'd be some other dogs. Pretty sure this is not a problem that's panama specific either... plenty of dogs barking at night stateside.

The fan idea is a good one, as is stepping up with actual noise-cancelling ear plugs.

I made the mistake of leaving the gate open later in the evening only to have 2 local dogs brawling on my back porch at 9 pm.

Take them for a ride to the other side of town and let them be stray somewhere else.

If hyperinflation of the dollar hits Panama all those stray dogs may become an important food resource. Might want to tolerate the barking just consider it the future dinner bell ringing LOL.

They are doing their jobs and telling you someone is where they are not supposed to be. Adopt them and they will protect you and your stuff.

I am finding that there are about 5 local dogs that enjoy hitting my trash at night when I sleep. Thinking I am going to buy a really big squirt gun, squeeze some habanero juice, mix with water, and wait for the little bastards.

Straight Ammonia in the squirt gun will do the trick.

There was more than one person in Florida that lost their pet due to gators. It would make for some interesting video.

    Re: Stray dogs

I'd like to think that a dog wouldn't hang around if he never got food or attention. Maybe they will go away soon - especially with help from ammonia. Or adopt them and put bark collars on them.
