I'll chime in here too - I'm looking to furnish a few bedrooms in my new Ancon rental.

I'm primarily interested in getting good quality mattresses for a decent price. I don't need fancy latex, 1500 coils, balabla. I just need a good firm mattress where I can't feel the darn springs.

    Any ideas?

Also craig's list, there is a Panamanian website that is like craig's list here is the link. You can translate it with google translate a web page.
Clasificados de bienes raices y autos usados en Panama y Costa Rica

Also, the comunity center in Clayton at the pool has a board that lots of items are usually posted on.

I have had the best luck buying at Econo Pricos and Furniture City for the furniture. Panafoto for the appliances, A/C and hot water heater. Do-It-Center and Novey for misc items and linens.

    Thanks Viewpoint. Good information.

Couple of questions--can you tell me generally where these stores are? I've seen Panafoto and believe it is in Bella Vista and believe there is a Do-It-Center at Multi Plaza Mall.

What do you think of Price Mart on Via Espania?

I usually shop at Panafoto on Calle 50 accross (Calle 50) from Banco General and Do-It-Center @ Multiplaza, Econo Pricos on Via Espana accross the street (Via Espana) from the new Caja Ahorros building and ask for the store manager Omaria (speaks english) you should be able to get your order discounted at least by the tax (7%) but not more. Panafoto will discount too on a large order. Price Smart is a good place to shop but they don't deliver large items but they can put you in touch with someone to deliver. Furniture prices seem a little high at Price Smart and appliance prices are not bad but selection is limited (one thing good about Price Spart is their guarantees on electronics). We are now buying energy efficent Panasonic packages, total inverter products including refrigerators, A/C's, microwave (all Panasonic) except washer & dryer and we buy Frigidaire for those appliances. Another good place for selection is ANCON store on Via Espana just past the old church although it's a bit price the selection is good. Tech House on Via Brazil (by Price Smart) is another good appliance place but you got to negoiate your prices there and insist on a discount. Their pricing is high and negoiating with them is difficult so we don't buy much there but we use them as a comparison. Reficenter or Cool Mart are good for A/C and there is one located on the back side of Price Smart by Super 99 but I prefer Panafoto unless it's a very large purchase as Panafoto has everything and the process with them is faster and more dependable (professional).

In general, do these stores have furniture in stock, or is there a waiting time on orders? If so, how long average?

If you contract some people for delivery on the side you can get the stuff same day normally. Econo Precio for example takes about 3-5 days on an average.
