    Question Buying a cell phone

Have searched past posts on this issue, but haven't found anything recent.
Will be coming to Panama next week and plan to settle on the Azuero. We want to be able to call the US occasionally - like when we aren't able to use our Magic Jack. We are not bringing any cell phones with us, so theres no unlocking/card issue. My questions are, would it be better to buy a prepaid cell phone in PC or could we wait til we get to Las Tablas? Asking questions about phones, plans and coverage areas would be next to impossible with my current Spanish language skills. Would we have a better chance of finding an English speaking salesperson in the city?
    Thanks.

I would buy the phone in the City. Like at Moviestar. You can load it with the amount of minutes you think you will need. Buying additional minutes for it is no problem in Las Tablas. There is also a Moviestar outlet there, however the sales person did not speak english.

What dates do you plan on being in Las Tablas in Feb. ? My wife and I plan to be there 2-11 thru 2-19. Hoping to hook up with a few others down there for cold one. Maybe you will be able to make it as well.

Sounds like a plan! We arrive in Las Tablas next Tuesday and will be in the general area during your stay. Going to be checking out the area between Las Tablas and Pedasi, and even further south.

I am told they have wifi in Las Tablas town square, so I will be putting something on the forum to try and arrange the hook up.

I never missed a chance to visit over cold ones. Why start now. My wife and I should be in the area at that time too. So post a time a couple days beforehand, we would enjoy meeting you and cjr. Sharing info would be very helpful. Dennis

I spent far too long looking - can someone tell me how to check balance on a pre-paid masmovil phone? Thanks.

    Mas Movil "Magic Numbers"
    161 : 24 hour client service
*165#SEND : Activate your chip and/or get prepaid balance
*131#SEND : Services Menu of Mas Movil

If you CAN get an unlocked/unblocked phone before coming here for a decent price I think you'll be better off. Phones here are way more expensive.
