Where should I set roots in Panama?

Is there a company who organizes a "Panama Tour," for lack of a better term, that could show me around Panama over a two week or so period? I'm very interested in re-locating to Panama. However, I do not wish to make a whole bunch of hit-or-miss trips and miss a truly attractive location only because I did not know about it.

Before moving to Panama, I plan to live down there for two or three months before taking the final plunge.

    All advice is welcome.

This is what companies like 'International Living' and 'Live and Invest Overseas' do:

Live & Invest In Panama 2011

I don't know about any events nearby for IL, but here is their link: Panama – International Living

well come down and spend some time here and find your own , good spot , alot of these travel companies will just blow smoke up your butt to get you to buy there stuff , nobody or company can give you the right place you should live , you need to find it yourself , rent , if you dont like the town after a few months , move and rent somewhere else . and start reading websites like this and the tons of yahoo websites on panama ,

I think it comes down to really only 3 broad choices..well thats the conclusion ive come to anyway.

    • The city (Highrise)
    • The Azuero Peninsula (East and South coast around Pedasi and Las Tablas)
    • The Western Highlands (Boquete, Chiriquí)

All have there own advantages and disadvantages....Google earth and Wikipedia are very helpful when getting to know anywhere from a great distance.

Let's not forget Bocas Del Toro! Many people fall in love with the beauty of the water and Islands. The strip of coastline around Coronado appeals to many because it is close to the city and Major healthcare. The Coronado area also has lots of homes already built and plenty of resales. Independent minded folks on a budget might want to consider Santiago as it has nice farmland very reasonable and I found the people to be very nice, helpful and welcoming. There is an area in Panama hardly ever talked about and that is the Coastal land in the Chiriqui Province, Areas like Boca Chica may also appeal to the fishermen and divers moving to Panama. These are just my observations and opinions others may differ.

Panama is not that big, easy to get around, and there are only so many places you would want to live. Take a couple of trips, spend some time, and you will find what suits you. My suggestion would be to make a list of things you are looking for such as beach living, mountain living, island living, amenities, stores, hospitals, etc. This country is very diverse so you will find something that fits your tastes.

Caravan is now doing a Panama tour. I've heard good things about them in other countries. Of course, that type of tour is like a cruise- one night here, next night there. Only the slightest taste of each, but does let you see alot of the country. Cal

Penonome and El Valle are on our short list of places to live.

I thought they had started cleaning this mess up already? The Smell will be bad during Carnival if they don't move quickly.

    Hi, folks!

Not sure about the meaning of the last post. Must have been meant in response to something else.

Anyway, thanks for the thoughtful responses. I like the idea of the day tours to get an idea what to investigate in more detail.

    Cheers!!
