    Christmas and Social Acceptance

So living in the interior of Panama is different than many places. If there is one thing local people love to do is blow off fireworks at anytime day or night. My friend (local expat), his girlfriend (mine was at her family's house) and I decided we would spend Christmas day in typical Panama fashion. Basically we stopped by a fireworks shop, spent $50 and wound up with enough bottle rockets and 3" mortars to invade a Middle Eastern country. Who would of thought that 1/4 sticks of dynamite were so readily available? Anyway, the day was spent bouncing from party to party letting loose a barrage of artillery. Yes folks, believe it or not, this is socially acceptable. We actually launched a mortar and 1/4 stick near Oceano's, just a stones throw from the police station and it was all good. I know this is probably not the typical Christmas for many people but welcome to Panama.

It's the same here in Thailand. We had a nice beach BBQ Christmas party and the locals all stopped by selling us some big fireworks which we proceeded to light. These fireworks were some serous 4th of July big bomb type fireworks readily available to the public.

Who would've thought that Christmas and quarter sticks went hand in hand?
