Thread: Cost of Medical/travel Insurance

I will be visiting Panama in a few months to see if I would like to retire there. A determining factor will be the cost of medical insurance, both while living in Panama and also while travelling . Does anyone have a ballpark figure on how much it might cost for coverage while outside Panama for say 6 months at a time (single, male, 65).

Hi. I also am concerned about my medical coverage while living in Panama. When my husband retires (anytime after Jan 3) I will be left without medical insurance. He has decided to keep working until we know how are are going to pay for my prescriptions when we arrive. I have heard that there is a 2 year wait for prexisting conditions. We can pay out of pocket but for how long? Are the drugs down there cheaper than here or do you get 10 at a time like Mexico. WE cannot seem to get enough information on what to expect and we sure hate to go in blindly.
Can anyone out there answer any of our questions or lead us to a website that has this type of information available?

Drugs are generally cheaper and a visit to a doctor even more so. You can also get quite a few drugs over the counter that you would need to have a prescription for in the USA.

Thanks Contrail. I am not even sure that some of mine are available there. I did write to the pharmacy that Ed suggested yesterday. Maybe I will hear back from them. I know that Costa Rica was terrible about responding. Because of a nerve disease, I have to take a few that are on the narcotic side. I would think that some of the bigger pharms in P City would be able to obtain them for me. I just dont know.
