    Question Azuero Rentals ?

Am wondering about availability and monthly rental prices near the ocean. I also would like to know what folks in the know call a "typical Panama house", as opposed to another kind of house?

We'll be coming down there for several months, but would like a heads-up before we arrive. Any other info about the Las Tablas/Chitre/Pedasi/Tonosi areas appreciated!

    Re: Azuero Rentals ?

Hi. I am new here as well and looking into the Azuero. Here is the advice I have received concerning your questions....

When you say near the ocean, do you mean walking distance or a 5 minute car ride? If you are going to rent a "typical Panamanian house" you are probably going to have to do a few things (at your own expense) to it to make it livable. First off, make sure there is indoor plumbing. It will most likely need a good cleaning, a fresh coat of paint, some caulking, window screens, etc... If you need a water heater--that too. You will probably have to pay more for the first few months until you get to know people, then hopefully you can get a good deal. It doesnt sound like there is a ton of rentals out there, but if you are patient, you can find one. If you find a good deal, you could pay a couple hundred, or way more depending on the house. Not sure about being right on the beach as I have not asked about that. I would guess it would go up a little. The really cheap rentals will most likely be unfurnished, no appliances either. Hope that helps.

I was told Pedasi is more expensive, so I am going to be looking into Las Tablas.

    Thanks for your reply wk36!

When do you plan on traveling to LT? We will be going in January. Have been researching for ages, and Las Tablas and surrounding area sounds good to us, and am aware that nothing beats 'feet on the ground' experience. I doubt that we'd find a long term rental right on a beach, so a safe & quiet neighborhood would work just fine.

    Hi Cindy,
I will be in Las Tablas briefly at the beginning of Feb. I hope to move down for 6 months in the spring or summer. IF all goes well, I will be staying permanently or at least until they change the "leave/return 72 hour rule." How long are you staying for--permanently? Keep in touch, I would like to hear how things go for you guys.

    Hi All,

We'll be traveling to Las Tablas area in January. We are planning to spend the majority of the year there, and summers in Alaska. It would be great for all of us to meet! We would like to get some kind of lodging rented before carnival time, and to have a base while we explore what Panama has to offer!

Sounds like a mini mass exodus to Las Tablas. I made sure not to book during Carnival. Not really my cup of tea.

    Re: Azuero Rentals ?

wk36, Where and how did you 'book' your trip? Do you already have reservations somewhere? We're looking at the Posada del Mar and Hotel la Luna for a room when we first arrive.

It does sound like an exodus, which kind of surprises me as I've read that it's not much of a gringo tourist destination. We too are not into the non-stop partying of carnival, but plan to do some exploring outside of the Azuero at that time.

We've been researching the peninsula for quite a long time, and it sounds like our kind of place, but you just don't know until you actually spend some time there. The bug thing is kind of a concern to me, because I get creeped out pretty easily. The whole thing is very exciting, but also a little scary.

    Hi Cindy,
By "book" I was just referring to my flight. I am still looking into hotels. I will probably be staying more in town and trying to find something that fits my tight budget. I found this place on Craigslist Panama...
Beach House for Rent - Uverito Beach
Might be a good place for you to set up shop while looking for something more permanent. Are the bugs supposed to be really bad on the Azuero? I don't mind them much, but still hope they aren't terrible.

    Re: Azuero Rentals ?

It sounds like there is a few like minded folks going to Azuero at the same time. Not sure if this is an exodus lol more so, some ppl tired of the winters in the north. We will be in Panama for 2 months, flight already purchased. We decided to check the big city first, 5 days rooms booked, then head to Las Tablas and wherever else looks interesting. We've also booked 12 days in Boquete during the middle of our trip to see how we like the highlands. That's all we booked and may just keep it like that until we get there. We too are on a budget and nothing booked has been expensive. We are so looking forward to this adventure. If we like it we might make it a 6 month there and 6 months in Idaho. Is it January Yet? Hey Dennis,
Sounds like a good plan. I am interested to hear what you think of Boquete. My parents, who rarely have a bad thing to say, did not get a good vibe there. Maybe it was a weird day, maybe not. We all loved the other parts of Chiriqui. Do you have a place to stay in Las Tablas yet? I am still looking for a budget hotel, would like something around 20 a night. I am gonna email the hotel piamonte and see if I can get a response about their rates.

    Re: Azuero Rentals ?

hola wk36, just practicing. I like the coastal areas, my wife likes Boquete. I think that's what we'll be looking for during the whole trip "The Vibe". As far as booking, we've covered our bases, I think. We have lodging at the beginning in PC< and in Boquete where it is a highly tourist area. Again in PC the day before we fly out. Too bad all us interested in Las Tablas couldn't get a place together. Anyway I'll keep posting. Are you traveling solo?

Hotel Piamonte is a good choice. I stayed there in january of this year. It was I think $22 or $23 for a single person. They have a nice restaurant that has daily specials. And the location is very nice, exactly in the center of Las Tablas.

Dennis, yep, will be traveling alone.

Hose, thanks for the info. I imagine I will stay there. Do you recall if any English is spoken there? Also, I read they have internet, but do you know if they have wifi? Need wifi for my phone. I know I should not be so worried about internet in Panama, but I can't help myself.

I stayed at the Hotel Don Jesus. It is about 4 blocks from the town square. It was nice, clean, and the people were nice. They did not speak English and the wireless internet usually didn't work. There was a restaurant on the second floor but it was really, really bad and I think it was closing. I think it was 21 USD a night. There is a nice parking area if you have a rental car. I liked it and would stay there again.

I think very little english is spoken. But the staff is very friendly, so you won't have any problems.
I don't think there was any wifi, but there is one computer near the reception desk, I think it was $1/hour.
Just beside the hotel, there is a small place with an outside terrace, try the vegetarian ceviche, small portion for something like 35-50 cents ,very delicious.

    Re: Azuero Rentals ?

hi if you book in the Hotel Piamonte try to get rooms 1 or 6 , they are at the front of the hotel and if i remember they are the only rooms with windows , . nelson the owner speaks some english , it was clean the last time i stayed there 4 years ago , doing just what you guys and gals are doing now , now i live here for the last 3 years , i am not sure what u mean about the bugs , there is no great amount of them here , sugar ants ,dragonfies , butterflies , the odd scorpion , lots of different bees ,spiders , just like back home , no prolbem . there is another hotel called sole or something like that , friends stayed there and said it was ok also , it is on the street behind the Hotel Piamonte , at this time i have seen houses in pedasi with for rent signs , no idea what they want for rent ,chitre has more shopping but they really got short changed on beaches ,los tables is growing with new stores and the beaches are not real close but better beaches than chitre , pedasi is 2 km from the beaches and they are great , Mudshark , you say your wife likes boquete ? she must love rain , friends of mine came from oregon and are living there , the other day i asked her how the rain was going , 229 inches so far this year , she thought it got about the same as Eugene , 50 inches a year , SURPRISE but this year even near pedasi which gets the least amount of rain in all of panama the locals are saying it is real wet this year , good for the crops and cows LOL

Thanks for all info. Is Residencial Pedasi the best budget hotel in Pedasi? I think it is around 25 (single) a night too, but not exactly sure. The Moscoso is about the same I think but it gets mixed reviews.

Yes naked guy I know it rains alot there. 229 in's, over 19 ft. Damn almost hard to comprehend. But my wife has to see for herself, & I know it will be beautiful in March. Coming to Panama for the first time, we really do need to see the variety she offers. You said it was hot there. Explain your view of hot please for those of us that haven't experienced your area. Is it in the 100 degree range with lot's of humidity? What are the night time temps? Thanks all those who post here. Us northerners really appreciate it. Note:1 of Oct, just blew out the sprinklers, wintering travel trailer next. Day time temps are now in the 60's no more 70's until spring. long sleeve shirts for nights. If you are getting that much rain we will probably have record snows here in N Idaho. Life is great enjoy

I hope to adjust to the weather, no a/c for me if I move there. My first purchase is going to be a few fans. Its weird to imagine I may never wear pants or long sleeves again, except the rare occasion.

    Re: Azuero Rentals ?

mudshark , hot here in the pedasi area in March might hit 95 in the day and 78 or so at night , with humidity aroung 55% i live on a acerage so i do get the summer winds , A/C is not needed at my place but have friends in pedasi that say they get no wind in town and turn there A/C on for about 1 hour before bed and then shut it off when they go to bed , also if you spend a month or more you start to get used to the heat and humidity ,i rarely us the A/C in the car as it really is not that bad and you have to get out of the car sometime . by March things will have started to turn brown here and it is really not that pretty , Boquete will still be green and looks great , but that is the dry season remember , the rain will return . i have read that on average the pedasi area gets about 45 inches a year ,the least amount in all of panama , last dry season we got 1/2 hour in 4 months , if your wife wants to live at a higher elevation and you have the time go look at Ocu and the little towns just outside of it , there you are in herrera province just outside of chitre and are on top of a mountain , it is truly a stunning view , and being there you would not get the rain amounts that they get in boquete , and i am sure there are many more places to explore , i have not done enough of that myself .

I am thinking nakedguy has to have a few drinks and loosen up so he can put pants on? The reverse of most of us who need a few drinks to get naked in public.
