Need some information on elementary schools for children?
Hi, I'm still pretty new to this forum. I have read that school systems in Panama run from March to November. I'm wanting to know the cost per month of schooling for each child. Do you get a discount for two children, sorry I know it's a silly question? What are the hours/days schools operate? Also I would be interested in a bilingual school but do not want to break the bank, meaning we couldn't afford 5-10k per year on schooling. I do want our children to get a good education, please give me some feedback. We are looking to live on the outskirts of Panama as I feel it may be safer. I look forward to hearing your responses. Thanks so much!

Hi!
The Panamanian schools generally run from mid-March through mid-December. Each school is different, some have split days others are from 7:30 - 2:30.
Once again it will depend on where you are exactly and what are the "outskirts" of Panama City? Chorerra? What about home schooling? There seems to be a lot of expats that home school their children. Also there are private schools available.
Re: Need some information on elementary schools for children?
I am also a parent to 2 young kids. I am moving to Panama (city) early next year.
I am also researching on schools. Another forummer PanamaDreamer is doing that too.
But I have to say that it is really hard trying to find info on schools online. Not much is avail through testimonials.
All thes best and do share whatever you find, I will too!
Re: Need some information on elementary schools for children?
Thanks for the response whypanama. I'd home school but honestly I do not have the patience. Private schooling would be nice but again I'm not sure if the funding would be available, especially putting two children through private schooling. Is private schooling reasonable in Panama?
Liont, please keep in touch with me if you find out any info. I will do the same for you too! Thanks.
Re: Need some information on elementary schools for children?
I have heard of one out near the Coronado area. Check www.playacommunity.com . I had a friend that was teaching in the city at a private school for a couple of years, but she has moved back to the Chicago area. I think it was running around $800/month for the private school she taught at and where her son was going.
Re: Need some information on elementary schools for children?
Thanks, yes $800 per month times two children would be too much for us. Granted I want our children to have a good education but it does have to be in the budget. I will continue research and hopefully someone else can help us both out with more precise answers
