Thread: is it possible to take a freight ship to go back to europe?

Me and my family have to go back to Europe for Xmas and we will be staying couple of month. I am trying to find good airfares but prices are really high around 1900$/ person with KLM. I was thinking that may be there are possibilities to get back by freighter??
If you have some info about this way of traveling please let me know

By coincidence I was looking into the same subject just this afternoon.

I found that the cost is about $100 per day per person with most offers between $4k-$6k

Strange, you can fly to the US for $500 and from the US to Europe for $1000. Not sure why freighters are so expensive.

Freighter most likely don't go directly from the port you would like to go on board to the port you would like to get off. You most likely end up with a 2-3 week trip of port hopping and eventually steer towards your desired destination.

They flying from Germany (Frankfurt) to Panama (Tocumen) and back.

There is one more web site that has international flights with multiple providers. It's in German but with google translation plug in this should be manageable. Germans travel a lot. That should give you a good variety of choices and with that better pricing.

If you dont mind to change planes in USA you can fly with Delta, American Airlines and Continental to europe. Only KLM flies directly to amsterdam and well now Condor....but im not really sure about that airline....

I just saw they fly every thursday to Panama and every friday back to Frankfurt... KLM flies at least 3 times a week from and to Panama.
