    Red face Vet and Kennel

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum. I would love for someone to give me some information on vets in Panama City. We were there recently and visited a couple of them, but we were wondering is there is anyone out there who has information on English speaking vets/kennels in El Dorado, Panama and surrounding areas? Please advise

Becky, do you live in the area?

I'd be interested in any volunteer opportunities you may know about... when I eventually come there, of course. Adoption drives, helping out the local shelters/vets any way I could.

I kinda got the idea when an e-friend did some volunteer work in Mexico and talked about it. His wife got leukemia and died very quickly... like literally 2 months from onset to the end. He sold everything he owned and just took off to wander... to get his head straight. He rode his Harley all over the southwest, eventually going down into Mexico. He ended up staying there 6 months, volunteering at an orphanage. He repaired broken windows that they didnt have the money to fix, he built them a chicken coop, helped set up a little farming area and when he wasnt "working" he was teaching english to the kids and trying to talk to the slightly older kids about the world and giving them some positive reinforcement that even when the odds are stacked against you it is possible to become something great... he said it was probably some of the only positive reinforcement a lot of those kids had ever had. According to him, it was absolutely the best 6 months in his entire life. He bought all his own tools, materials & supplies, but overall it cost very little in American terms. But he talked about no matter what else he did in life, he'd always have that time... knowing that he did one g0ddamn thing right in his life... that he'd given freely of his time, effort and money and it seriously made a huge impact on him knowing that he had irrefutably done some good in his time here.

I want to know what that feels like. I was in the military for 10 years, and now I've been a military contractor for a few years in the middle east. I guess you can say I made a career in a field I never really cared for, primarily because at first it put me through college, then it paid well. But now I want to work at something because it is simply the right thing to do. So that I too might also be able to point to something and know that I'd irrefutable done some good in my time on this watery rock.

There are lots of volunteer organizations here. Want to help spay and neuter dogs and cats? How about feed the school kids, or the elderly? Maybe help remodel or update a school? You can help from anywhere you are by bidding or buying something in the Bid4boquete auction. I even donated something to be auctioned...

    Re: Vet and Kennel

In Canada you have to go to the vet to buy your dog's medication. So the 6 month supply of heartworm medication with taxes costs about $220. I buy it now in Panama (no need to see a vet) with a cost of only $25. In many ways Panama is a great country.

We have a wonderful, English speaking vet in Panama City. She saved our dog's life shortly after we moved here. Very reasonably priced. Hospital Veterinaro Aries; 226-6329. Doctor is Dra. Fatima. The clinic has 24 hour emergency response and care!!!
