    A question about weather

Specifically about pure sunshine versus overcast.

I'm a very fair skinned gringo and really have to avoid direct sunshine. That doesn't mean heat - I have no issue with heat. And many places I have traveled in Central America have a generally high and thick overcast rather than direct sunshine. But I haven't tried Panama and don't know. I do understand the climate is different depending on location.

Is it generally sunny, or high overcast? Is there some area where I could count on the climate being more overcast - but still warm? This is actually a make-or-break deal for me as I really have to stay out of the sun. Many thanks!

I am no expert on Panama specifically as I have not yet visited the country, but I have been toCosta Rica, Belize, Southern Mexico, Caribbean, etc are close to equator and Panama is even closer than them. The sun is VERY powerful there as it stays more directly overhead and its rays are more perpendicular to the earth there so even on cloudy/hazy days the exposure is more intense than anywhere in USA.

I guess the best thing is to do what everyone there recommends and had to do themselves-go down and check it out yourself. No one else can answer such a subjective question better than you. I am heading down in June for 2 weeks. Hope this helps.

Have no doubt the sun is VERY bright and strong here when it is out. I always put on at least spf 50 before going out, no kidding.
