I used Skype extensively and of course as Mr. Woohoo says - it "should" work but is totally dependent on a good fast internet connection. We got MagicJack for our daughter who lives in Dominican Republic and it works REALLY well. Much clearer than Skype. AND (here's the real good point) with MagicJack she has a local area code where we live so we can call her as a local call at N/C . PLUS she calls us totally N/C except for the $20/year fee. PLUS with standard cordless phones attached to their computers, they can walk all over their home and down to the pool and still talk with us. I say that MagicJack gives a far bigger bang for the buck than Skype plus the sound quality is much better.

I use Skype extensively, mainly for business. I have PaNETma for my internet, at 2 MB up/down package. I have never had issues with Skype in any internet cafes in Panama and know a bunch of people that use it as well. There are options for getting flat rate packages.
