    Internet Connection Outside PC

    Hi there

Since I work from home I'm considering living outside PC. My main requirement is a fast and reliable Internet connection since I'm on the net ALL day (and often half the night too)

What is the connection like outside PC and are there any towns that people would recommend trying out that have cable/fast connections? I'm open to suggestion about mountain/beach/other environments

    Steve

I have no clue, but probably worse than in the city...

A 2 Mbit/s connection you can get for $33.95 today with Cableonda. The 3-5 Mbit/s go from ~$80-$140 per month I think.

You might want to a get a backup line with another company though.

Have you looked at international 2-way satellite internet?

TA for the subscription info. I looked at satellite in other countries, not here yet though. Usually it works out pretty expensive and tends to be a bit unreliable in bad weather so have been put off until the technology improves.

I live in the boondocks of Las Tablas and my internet is just fine. I get 1mb down for $35 per month the Cable and Wireless. I actually couldn't believe how decent my internet is. There has been a lot of cable and fiber being strung throughout the country. As far as Latin America goes this country is actually one of the best for high-speed outside of major cities. Do yourself a favor and live outside of Panama City.

Thanks Mr WhoHoo, we'll definitely check Las Tablas out too! We may do 2 weeks to 1 month in Panama city just to explore and orientate ourselves.

Is that a 3G connection? If so, is there a pay-as-you-go version or do you need to sign up for a year?

Gotta admit having high-speed in the interior is awesome. I know that El Valle has been getting high-speed and Boquete has had it for awhile. Btw nakedguy, do you know if they are working on getting high-speed out to Playa Venao or Tonosi? Honestly, if you can recieve broadband Internet it is good for property values.

mr woohoo , i think they would just be happy to get good cell coverage out that way . in tonosi i think they would have the same option as i am using myself (the little modem thingy) from the cell tower they put up last year , but i do not think that they have hi speed anything ,other than drunk drivers . and i know cell coverage around venao is real hit and miss , but the farther you go down that way the more hilly it becomes ,looks very nice but harder to get coverage

Very true, cell coverage out there does suck. If one of data companies were to drop fiber between Pedasi and Tonosi it would be a huge plus for communications and biz out that way.
